Help

Mon Mar 08, 2004 8:16 pm

Ok, I got a new Radeon card and decided to do a clean install of Win XP. I formatted the harddrive, installed XP and all my other components.

Now I've run into a problem.

I can't connect to the internet. WinXP keeps adding a 1394 Net adapter Firewire connection that conflicts with my ethernet card. I disable and uninstall and the damn thing pops right back up when I reboot.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What motherboard do you have?

just disable it then reboot if your modem is acquired your nic will get the right i.p. address. If for some odd reason it doesnt bring up your network connections and right click repair for it to release & renew the i.p. address.

ASUS A7V266-E mobo

go into the device manager (right click on computer) and remove the 1394 net adapter. if your card came with software, stick it in the CD drive, then right click on your ethernet adapter and select "update driver" then "install from a specific location"

scan the disc for the driver. or if your card came with no disc because it's built into the motherboard, stick in the CD that came with the motherboard and search for it on there.

Have you disabled all onboard network adapters through the BIOS?

Try disabling the Firewire connection in the BIOS.

where is it in the BIOS?

Try this

Go to Chip Configuration at the main menu in the BIOS. Then disable the Onboard ACR LAN Controller. I don't think that's it but it won't hurt to try :)

try turning off "detect new hardware" in windows.. where is the conflict arising?

FI2ick, if he does that he'll not have a working LAN adaptor, right? He'd want to disable the 1394/firewire controller in BIOS, or disable (not uninstall) it in device manager. Once it's disabled, it won't be reinstalled, and should use up no resources.

Rotoman, can you post a screen cap of what your device manager looks like?

I looked at the manual for his motherboard online and the only option for onboard 1394/LAN was that. *shrug*

Just do what Bullhead said I guess.
