First of all I know that Camel Toe Joe and others would kill for my access right now, so I'll keep my bitch'in to a minimum.

Got home Monday and had a message saying that my Charter Hi Speed Internet service was coming to an end. I would have to call their office and make new arrangements. Terriffic!

So Wednesday I call. Okay whats the deal? What are my options, etc? Before I had silver service (their terminology) which worked out to be around/average out to 1800/128 (down/up). Not mega good, but alright for 25 smackers a month. So, Michelle say's: Mo! here is the deal. You can have our lite service for $29.95 which works out to be 384/128 or thereabouts, or you can upgrade to our 3MB service for $39.95 a month. She claims if my math is correct 3000/128.

Oh well, geez, give a moment here, okay. Just a minute Michelle. Alright I've thought about it. Upgrade me to the 3MB service. Sheesh! Thats their only two options, my word!

So today I test my link with Broadband Reports and DSL Reports. After several tests my new service works like this:

4.22.04 Down Up Site

1903 236 CA

1660 237 CA

2154 217 CA

1942 238 NJ

My download is no where near 3MB, but my up speed came up to almost 256. So I suspect Michelle got her facts wrong. After some checking at Broadband Reports, most users have 3000/256 as their stated ISP speeds, some even came close or exceed those speeds, I could be so lucky. Is it worth going to battle with Charter? Or am I beating my head against a brick wall!

Hey, at least they don't kill your connections. They do that to me all the time. Whether it be while playing battlefield (dreaded "connection problems"), using FTP or telnet, they LOVE to kill my connections. Also, they only allow me two simulatenous file transfers - otherwise I get some weird error saying "Too many connections from HSA Corp." and then it says my IP address. Awesome, isn't it?

256 up is nice and an average of 2MB for forty bucks isn't bad at all. I would relax, especially if they are the only option in town.

MoDyna-

I have Adelphia and they sold me on 3MB down and 256k up.

My speeds average 1100-1300 down and 256k up. I called them and complained that my speeds less than 40% of what I was paying for, and they said, and I quote:

We only guarantee UP TO 3mb/sec

They refused to help me.

I have Roadrunner cable right now, but recently the service has gone to shit. It works perfectly when its working, but has these burps where 30 seconds will go by without doing a damn thing. I've been getting disconnected in game alot because of this. Anyone else that has roadrunner having any problems?

Levar:
I also have been having problems with Road Runner. Normally my connection speeds and pings are great. Over the last 4 weeks, I have been having frequent Connection Problems or Burps in the system.

I have re-installed everything and have shut down all ancillary programs (Anti-virus, Firewalls) to test out my PC. I have run virus checks, spybot and adaware and everything comes back ok.

So I believe there is something going on with Road Runner.

If you figure out whats going on, please send me a PM.
