SETI is the search for extra terrestrial intelligence. SETI@home is an app that runs on your comp and processes chunks of data for them. The only reward you get is knowing that you're helping in the search.

It distributes the processing to the participants computers so they can process larger amounts of data. As Levar said, nothing in it for you other than helping out.

See the attached screenshot

IE takes up more RAM that Seti. I also use the command line client to crunch em vs the screensaver. It works almost twice as fast.

Very lazy, and inconsiderate. Do you know how hard it is to scroll sideways to read posts?! Huh!? :tard:

*ahem*
I've not tried SETI, but I have done "Folding." Protiens do some scientific stuff and with some research and analyzing, they can find out why it does it and how so they can learn how to do stuff like cure cancer.

Anyway, they have the real explanation somewhere. It just uses extra CPU cycles, meaning if you are running BF and BF is taking 60% of your CPU, Folding will use the other 40%. It always bows to other programs, so it nevers slows stuff down.

This "bowing" is referred to as low priority ;)

Well my monitor is pretty rinky dinky, and it seemed like it would take two of mine to fit that pic. But if I had a monitor that big, where would I put my empty beer bottles?

HAHA... I almost have to scroll over to click submit.
