I think its a good idea to have a seatbelt law. There are some cases where someone could be hit and recover without hitting someone else..
Without a seatbelt, they may be tossed to the passenger seat where they no longer have control of the car.
the one law I think is dumb is the helmet law.

I personally think Pudrik is the most correct one here.
Its not the governments job to protect me from myself. Wearing a seatbelt doesn't PREVENT accidents. it only ameliorates the effects of one on individuals involved IN the accident.
I personally always wear mine because I know I do enough stupid shit in my life that involves enough danger and I don't need to go looking for more but thats MY choice.
If you want to die through alcoholism, drug overdose, suicide, not wearing seat belt (not that I am saying they are all the same) then you go right ahead.
This touches on a huge arguement about what levels of governmental involvment in our life should be restricted to. I firmly believe you can do whatever the hell you want as long as it doesn't harm others.
Let em drive without belts. But don't give them an insurance setttlement or free (read tax payers money) medical care either.
This whole movement in society over the last 30 years towards making everything safe and secure pisses me off. LIFE IS DANGEROUS! and if you try and make everything all rosey and safe then people will not know how to react when dangerous shit DOES happen.
So two points.
1:Let the gene pool clean itself out.
2:Allow, Make, Force people to be responsible for their decisions|

I too support seat belt laws because imposing a system of "your life, your decision" would never work. No matter how many laws you repealed or created, people would still get hotshot lawyers and sympathetic juries to award them millions based on their own stupidity.
Might as well force them to be safe to cut down ont he amount of injuries.
And I don't buy people arguments that seatbelts are bothersome and uncomfortable. 5 year old kids complain about seatbelts, adults should grow up and just put the damn thing on, At the very least, if you slam into me, it'll prevent your dumbass corpse from flying through your window and into mine.
