Video Capture Problems

Postby Dakana » Wed May 26, 2004 8:42 pm

Hey guys. I'm trying to capture some Band of Brothers clips from the DVD Box set.

My video card is the ATI All In Wonder Radeon 8500DV. I've got the attachment with the composite, SVideo, and DV inputs, and I'm using my Playstation 2 and the composite input.

I'm using Windows Media Encoder. When it first boots up, the Playstation 2 intro is flawless. The FBI Warning and HBO DVD introductions are fine, but then, when it gets to the DVD Menu, only the first little part, probably 30 pixels of the box are filled with video. If I change video settings, it shows me what the video is supposed to be, but then stops and repeats 2 frames over and over in a screwed-up way. If I change video settings again, it will advance a few frames and then hang up again. I can here the appropriate music changes if I enter a scene. The sound if perfect and the video plays fine as if nothing was wrong, only the video on my screen hangs up. I don't understand...

I've installed all the latest drivers, and I guess it's a codec or format problem becuase of other videos work fine, and I can play the Playstation, FBI warning, and HBO DVD stuff perfectley. Just when I get into the Band of Brothers video part... I don't understand!

check the guides and stuff here, should have some answer or if not an alternate way to cap. Virtual Dub works great.

Use DVD Decryptor and convert it to .AVI. Don't forget to use a codec or you'll have one big .AVI file. By big, I mean about...3 GB minimum.

Found a program that looks easy. I'll try it sometime tonight to see if it's any good.

I'm not sure what your talking about - but my hauppage pvr 250 card (which rocks) was unable to record any type of DVD thing that I played on it - the pixels and sound would get totally screwed up - the only thing you can do is play the dvd on the TV then record it on your VCR then you'll be able to record the movie from your VCR. Get rid of ATI tuner cards - Hauppage is fricken awesome

The way I've always captured video is using Windows Media Encoder. I play the video and start encoding when I want. It then starts recording the video in real-time, until I stop it. What I want to do is just get a few snippets, not whole episodes or the whole DVD. I want isolated video clips.

I've copied stuff off of DVD's and VHS before, and also I really believe its a format or codec problem becuase I could, if I wanted, capture the Playstation and intro and that kind of stuff.

I'm going to try Virtual Dub.

This is probably how you're going to do it:

1. Pop in BoB DVD
2. Open VirtualDub & Select Chapter
3. Cut piece out. (Edit > Set Selection Start > Set Selection End>
4. Save as .AVI DON'T FORGET TO USE A CODEC OR YOU'LL HAVE ONE BIG FILE
