When they do those sticker mpg's those are done in like perfect circumsances, they lift up the dirve wheels and then the wheels start turning, so theres no friction which equals less power needed for the wheels to turn. The C5 Vette listed as 28 highway, its a 5.7L V-8, you'll only get close to that in the 6-speed holding the RPM's at 2,000. Basically those esttimates are a bunch of BS.

Driving to school and work was getting expensive so in 1984 I bought a new 1984 Dodge Colt with 1.4 litre (Mitsubishi) 4 speed. Paid $4500 out the door.
Highway mpg was over 45. With 120k miles it still got 40+ With overdrive (they called it Economy stick) 50 mpg was possible.
