Congratulations Conservative Party in Canada

Congratulations on a victory for the conservative party in Canada. Since we have so many Canadians here, I would love to know what you guys think about this change.

This will come as a surprise to the newly elected Liberal government.

I think he meant that the Liberals were only voted as a minority government, with 139 seats in parliament (you need 155 to be a majority) and the Conservatives are not too far behind with 99 seats. It is a fact that most minority governments generally last 18 months. To quote what one Toronto newspaper said: "Canadians voted and it showed that they don't like the Liberals, but they don't also trust the Conservatives."

I voted Conservatives, because I hated the freakin' lies Dalton McGuinty made about not raising taxes, the "sin" taxes, and the Health Premiums especially. (extra $600-800 CDN a year for Health Care now?? WTF?? Wages are stuck as they are and they are not going up, inflation caused everything to go up in gas prices, in foods, in everything)

I was hoping Conservatives would win too...

Who did you fellow Canadians here voted for?

The cost to own a home in the Boston area has risen over 400% in the last ten years. I can't even begin to go into to the rest of the financial rape. It's good to know, in a way, we're not the only ones getting raped.

for the first time in my life, I voted Liberal. I did it because I have always been a PROGRESSIVE Conservative and could not support Steven Harper and the "new Conservative" party.

Until the right wing-nuts like Cheryl Gallant, Myron Thompson, Scott Reid, Darryl Stinson, Randy White, etc... are gone, I will NEVER support the Conservatives again.

Like Joe Clark said, I had to support the "devil that I knew" as opposed to unknown (and very scary) Steven Harper. Plus he is just a mean guy who does not deserve to govern Canada, nor to represent us on the international stage. At least with Martin, we are not completely embarassed internationally like we were with Chretien!

I voted Conservative. It's a shame Harper didn't pull off minority instead of Martin. It was time for change. they wasted 2 billion dollars on a gun registry system, calling leaders of other countries morons, calling people from other countries bastards, having MP's embroiled in a scandal where they funneled millions to liberal friendly ad agencies, wasted billions in the HRDC boondoggle, lowered our military strength to crap all, made our health care system worse in many areas, diminished our international role......and what do we do? We re-elect the sons of bitches.

Since we don't have a conservative government, the next best thing is a liberal minority government, instead of majority, propped up by the NDP. Jack Layton had quite a good platform and believed in many things I do, so if the Liberals ever want to do anything, they'll most likely have to agree to implement some of the NDP's policies which is a good thing.

You are right Agent Commando. Chacal, I should have been more clear. Primarily, I was curious to hear from our Canadian friends their views on the politics of it. I am conservative here in the USA but don't know how it compares to conservatives in Canada.

I actually voted green this time, and I'm glad to see their support jumped up so much - from about 1100 nationally last time to 580000. None were elected, but it should be a hint to the government that people do care about their issues.
Interestingly, the NDP has had a lock on my riding since '79, so the 'vote lib/con to keep the con/lib out' argument didn't matter.

Oh, and the con's scare me for some reason...

I almost voted Green Party myself. But my Quebec Block MP has been doing a fine job of speaking up for her constituents for the last 3 mandates, and besides I'm an ardent nationalist, so I voted Block - and won.

Voting conservative was out of the question - going back to stone age doesn't seem like a worthy goal. Besides, there's more than enough conservatism in North America right now.

Liberals are destroyed in Quebec since the ad agencies scandal, and I wouldn't vote for Martin because he's a yes-man to the USA.
