Those numbers are off a bit, they have sold many more gamecube systems to the stores than what the stores have sold to consumers! And when gamecube first came out it was $300? That comes out to abot 31k systems sold minimum and at the current price of $100 per that is 95k maximum. Not even close to the 100k mark.

#1) Not color it purple, no one in college is going to buy a purple console, and people in colllege is 95% of the market
#2)Internet multiplayer, it has the ability but no network to connect to, and the big thing isn't interconnectivity it's internet multipayer
#3)Stop developing properietary hardware, no one does and makes money on it anymore

Nintendo just isn't up to the competition, in fact they didn't make any money on the N64 which is why they were hoping to make money on the gamecube but they blew it. I don't see them lasting anouther 15 years, they might end up being forced to make cards like they used to do.
ANyways if sony and/or microsoft wanted to push nintendo out of the american market once and for all, they could easily do it, they have the financial backing of their conglomerates! Hell even bill gates said "If no one will make games for the Xbox we'll just make our own games".
The future of gaming isn't with nintendo. [/B]
Do you have any source for those numbers? I know cashcow gave his link to where he found his, but can you actually prove that those consoles didn't make it to the consumers?
And as cashcow mentioned above, purple was not the only color available. Black was also available. There are probably some people who would buy a purple console...granted, probably not many, but a few. Not that I agree with the purple color, but black was also an option.
I believe you are correct on #2, I think that this would make Nintendo better to expand online. But unfortunately I do not see them doing this any time soon.
As for proprietary hardware, I'm not much of an expert in this matter, but I really don't see anything wrong with it. I mean, in a sense, aren't all the consoles proprietary?
Unlike yourself, I do see Nintendo continuing on through the years. They have basically diverted their market more to kids as to not try and directly compete with the XBox and PS2 markets. Personally I just don't see the XBox panning out. I think it will flop and the PS2 will be the main console, followed by Nintendo.

No I can't name sources because it's been a long time since I've read any articles about this, which was at least a year ago when I was heavy into console gaming. Be darned if I could remember links from that long ago which probably are dead now anyways.
The colors for gamecube are purple, black, orange, and several other colors. When it first came out the only advertised color was purple! I remember going to kmart to look at the new systems and they only had purple.
Proprietary hardware takes money to develop! Money which nintendo could have better spent on internet multiplayer or possibly making more nintendo games for it. The hardware in the PS2 and Xbox are not proprietary, they are slightly modified versions of the pentium 3 and pentium 4 I think. I even know someone who took the harddrive out of his Xbox and put in anouther with much more capicity. THat said you wouldn't be able to swap out processors from an Xbox to a normal everyday computer because the mineute differnces but it is essentially existing hardware.
Kids are not a very large nitch in gaming. And Bill Gates isn't going to give up the console buisiness anytime soon, and he has the financial backing of essentially the wealthiest buisness on earth.
When Sony first made playstation they were able to make a less powerful system more popular because #1 it was the first to use inexpensive CDs, and #2 They had the financial backing of a very aggressive conglomerate which was able to attract many developers with that financial backing.
