Hurricane Ivan, Strike 3 for the US

Charley, Frances, and now we've got Ivan. It's been a crazy hurricane season so far, and we still got more to go.

Hurricane Ivan looks to be the most powerfull storm of the season thus far though, if anythign its only getting stronger, as its pressure has dropped dramaticly over the past several hours.

This is a dangerous system, its also a gorgeous system. Well defined tightly-packed eye, great outflow, and well organized. I hope this doesn't hit Florida, two hurricanes is enough and I don't think the state of Florida needs another one.

I'm not sure.....is this one smaller than Frances but packs more of a punch?

Hurricane Ivan is thus far the most powerful storm of the season.... over water though :o as I am sure most Floridians are thankful for. Not surprising that he is as strong as he is.... he's in a low shear environment and has plenty of "high octane" fuel (Very warm ocean water). I wouldn't be surprised to see Ivan reach Cat5 intensity for a brief period of time before he hits or goes near Jamaica.

Re to Pierce - A Cat4 hurricane (Ivan) definitely packs more pf a punch that a Cat2 (Frances) however you can't just measure a hurricane by it's rating... Frances was a very large and slow moving storm and while she may not have leveled everything in her path like Andrew... she affected a huge area of the U.S. with tornadoes and flooding.

Yeah, as soon as Ivan gets within two days of hitting land be on the lookout for what my school paper described as a "collective media orgasm." As horrible as a hurricane is, the media loves it.

We'll make it through this one as well my Florida Brethern. Actually I'm taking meteorology this smester here at Florida State University and we've been tracking them all. I FINALLY CAN GET MY HANDS ON SUPER COMPUTERS! I'll relay all the info I get via wireless internet in class. We have teh NWSA posted here, so expect some good info.

Im reading that fights are breaking out in some areas of florida for simple things like water,ice and fuel.
If this next storm hits it will be a real test of our Government to get those folks even simple supplies

It's smaller in length and width, but it has stronger winds. That's what they mean by that Pierce.

I would Evac once...maybe even twice. But if I had to Evac a third time I would be moving out of Florida for good. Can't live your life very well in fear can you...
