They have been working on this for some time. THey are updating the character and time to reflect his age. Instead of Nazi's there are the Commies, etc.

That would make sense to update everything. I don't think he is necessarily "too old" for this type of role. Granted, he may not be swinging from whips, diving out of the way of a huge boulder, getting into bar room brawls, but he can still play the part of an older Indiana the archeologist. Uncovering mysteries, etc.
There probably won't be as much action.
But hey, I will still go see it regardless.
