Changing formats
I have iTUNES here in the dorm, but most songs are in mpeg4 format....is there a way to change it to mpeg layer 3?

:o
Isn't mp4 supposed to be more compact? Or am I thinking of something else? xP
I know fraunhofer was trying to develop a midi type of music format with the quality of mp3s, supposed to be 1/10th of the mp3 size (aka 1% of the cd-rom size).
You can do what I do, and do this
star>programs>creative>creative recorder
click it says it says "What you hear"
play the music and record it at the same time, a mic is not needed.
Then once you have the song in wav format you open up creative media player and click covert I think.

that can be done but I would take hours to make it just for 1 song.
WinAmp has a feature, using his output codec "diskwrite" or something like that allows to decompile any sound format it is playing to wav format doing it in just a few sec, and then convet them to mp3 format. with the sound program you want.

Stupid question but does the itunes 'convert selection to mp3' feature not exist on the pc version?

Of course I on't know how it works on the pc but that's where i's at on the mac. You have to select a song before it will appear though (hence convert selection...).
