dvd-rom problems

Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

dvd-rom problems

i had a dvd-rom and a dvd-rom burner, someone removed the dvd burner when i wasnt home, now my dvd-rom that came with the computer cannot be read or anyhting i uninstalled it and reinstalled t and it still wont read andything, when you put a disc in and close the door no sand timer thing pops up or anythign can someone please halp me.

modified dell dimension 8200 it tells me its a generic dvd-rom scsi crrom device

are you getting power to it?

If so, then maybe unplug and then re-attach the cables...sometimes that will do it.

I am surprised that by re-attching it that it does not recognize the "original" hardware.

it acts like its reading the cd, but its not showing up on the computer....i m trying to figure out who the manufactrurer is to dl new drivers but it just sayd generic

dell should have it on their website, no?

Failing that, then see if it shows up under my computer on the desktop or better yet, under your device manager when you right click on my computer.

Do you see a yellow exclamation mark beside your DVD drive? SOmetimes you can roll back a driver there.

dell has all the manufacturers showing up and all my comp says is generic thers no makrs and i ve done everything you can think of in the device manager and everything else

did you try richt clicking on the DVD drive in yoru device manager and either troubleshooting it or rolling back the driver?

Sometimes when you disable and then enable it, it reads it again?

good luck. Like I said, try disabling it and then enabling it, then a reboot...

maybe it will help?

I just uninstalled daemon tools, that was the generic drive shwoing up now i have no cd drive showing up and its not dectecting it in add hardware

and i dont know the manufacturer of my dvd-rom drive

I had a similar problem with my Lite-On CDRW/DVD combo drive. I finally figured out that it was the drive..
