Actually, a moon base would bring nothing more than an orbiting station. The logistics are the same, because the envrionment is exactly as hostile on the moon as it is in space. Plus you're stuck with gravity, although it would be a plus for long-term residence.

Getting people on and off an orbiting station is much easier than getting them on and off the moon, especially in emergencies.

Now, if we could mine the moon and make useful components out of it, that would be different. We could shoot them to a space station (possibly using a magnetic launcher instead of rockets).

Ok, the therios I've heard are
1)The moon is a chunk of the earth that was blasted into space by anouther planet sized object hitting earth (10th planet).
2) A small planetiod that was caught in earth's gravity as it zoomed by
3)a huge astriod hit earth, created the pacific ocean and created the moon.
So, 2 of these things say the moon was a part of earth, so it should have many useful ores, maybe even iron. :)

Ralph, please know that NASA does have a lot of supporters and we stick with you guys through thick and thin. If what you guys did was easy, everyone would be doing it.

 NASA.

I appreciate that, and believe me, at times I just want to go to work for Sonic myself just to get out of the red tape. While I am not an engineer, I provide tech support for PCs on MSFC, which means I work on the peoples computers, that send people into space. And as for that moon base, that and many other things are in the works, from DART to just getting back to the moon. I fully respect any statements that people can make about safety and and totally agree with you, but you have to understand that the space shuttle is an extremely old design. And during the time of the last two accidents, NASA wasn't exactly high on the governments funding list. So speak as freely as you wish with your opinions, just remember, some peoples job depends on NASA, like mine. :)
