DesktopX and Windowblinds
Hey everyone,
Can anyone tell me if running DesktopX with widgets and objects and also running a custom theme through Windowblinds has any effect on gaming. And with online gaming?
Should I disable/turn these off like I do with anti-virus software before playing pc games?
thanks in advance for any info!

Yes and no, DesktopX widgets can have a dramatic effect. These pull cycles from the cpu, even if StarDock say they are limited.
WindowBlinds however uses very little cpu power and effects only memory ussage. so if you have say 512 to a 1gig of RAM you should be okay.
hope this helps.

They look good, WindowBlinds, DesktopX and WindowsFX give XP the Longhorn look.
If you have the RAM and CPU to use them I suggest the Retail versions for sure. All the Nags with the Free versions slow you down.
I own them but use them with a seperate User account other than the one I play games on OR use PhotoShop on. Photoshop seems to hate skins and the WindowsFX shadows.
BTW... I love the widgets for DesktopX. There are some really great ones out there.

some of the desktopX objects use INSANE memory. there's one that uses 1.5 GB, just to tell you what the weather is like in your city.
the vast majority of them don't use too much though.

hey i use a weather widget called 'live weather". Is this the one you use? How would I find out how much memory an object or widget is using?
I also use a desktop calender and clock. they are cool looking. Like they are imbedded in the desktop and glassy, but if they are causing problems, these are features that obviously are not necessary to have.
