Help!!
Ok, I was installing a RAM Module on my friend's mom's computer. All went well but when I put the case cover back on and hooked everything back up it wouldn't turn on! I looked inside and everything is plugged in as it should be. (Mobo, HDD, Power switches)
So now my friend's mom is freaking out because she is in love with her comp! I have no idea why it is doing this but the best I can assume is that I bumped a wire coming from the power switch. If anyone has any suggestions of things I might be able to try to get it working please post!
Thanks

Mr. Slayer
this is what i would try:
1. turn away the main power cord, remove the cover.
2. check the power connection to mobo. if it is ok
3. remove the new ram module. check the others that they are mounted properly.
4. power up. if the comp comes up, the ram module was not mounted properly. if not,
5. check, if the fan of the power supply is running. if not, the power supply could be, or maybe is, damaged. another sign for that is, that there is absolut no activity on the mobo eg. cpu fan is not running.
you can also check it out by removing any power cables from the mobo and hd's, rom's etc. but leaving one hd connected. power up, having your palm laying on top of the hd. if the power supply is undamaged, you can "feel" the movements of hd-heads when they move out of their rest position. you should do this in case that the power fan is not running.
6. if the power supply is undamaged and the cpu fan is running but nothing happens, take away any power cables of hd's and rom's. also remove all hd and rom ide or scsi cables and the fd cable from the mobo. power up again. if the comp comes up, one of the cables is not connected properly or in the wrong way.
7. if nothing happens, remove all cards except the grafic card from the comp. power up. if still nothing happens there will be a great chance that the mobo is damaged.
8. if there is any activity and the normal long "BEEP" on power up, take back one card after another too see which card produces the failure. if there is one than more "BEEP" google for POST or "power on self test" or, for a quick look, http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/sys/beep/index.htm. on power up any comp is running through a standard routine that results in various POST-codes if there is a failure. check the manufacturer of the bios, cause ervery manufacturer has his own POST-Codes. on the mentioned side there is also a walkthrough for booting problems. check it also.
btw.: turn the power "off" to your system before installing or removing any parts or components. if you add or remove any components or cables while the power is "on," you may damage the system or it's components. also remove always the main power cord.
good luck

i think you refer to this
.you can also check it out by removing any power cables from the mobo and hd's, rom's etc. but leaving one hd connected. power up, having your palm laying on top of the hd. if the power supply is undamaged, you can "feel" the movements of hd-heads when they move out of their rest position. you should do this in case that the power fan is not running.
sorry, forgot, that i test hd's normally with my external usb. you're right, there is no way to switch on the comp when the the mobo is not connected.
btw: is there any activity on the mobo or is the power supply fan or the cpu fan rotating when you power up? if the power supply is on you can, in most cases, hear a very low, high tone coming from it.
