Al Queda took a pre-emptive strike at the US. We retaliated.
Saddam Hussain broke provisions set by the United Nations, including the kicking out of weapons inspectors. All this under the threat of a military strike if he did not comply. He did not comply... so the US retaliated.
You think 9/11 was the first step in the chain? Nothing came before it? It's like history started on 9/11/2001 or something.

People complain too much, even if Bush tapped a phone call where your son asked you to pick him up from soccer practice...really who cares. He's not gonna broadcast on national tv that your a soccer dad and ruin your rep. Let the government do what they need to do.
The reason it bothers me at all is that our leader used has the phrase, "Either you are with us, or against us." in television addresses. Does that mean if I do not agree with our actions in Iraq I am a traitor who should be spied on? That is what makes me nervous. The attitude that not agreeing is close to treason. A leader who oversteps the generous law already in place to spy on people by executive order is not someone I can really trust.
Anything else is naive in my mind.

Defending the program today, Bush said that the order is only used to intercept the international communications of people inside the U.S. who have been determined to have "a clear link" to al Qaeda or related terrorist organizations.

If they have a "clear link", why are they allowed to be in the country in the first place? Instead of listening to the phone calls of people who known ties to terrorists, get them out of the country!!
