Mobile Phone Rate Comparison

Postby TiNM@N » Wed Jun 28, 2006 1:08 pm

Curious... i did a few quick searches but nothing came out with out of the blue. I have Cingular Wireless as my mobile. My reception is horrible in my apartment, i either have to sit right next to my window or step outside (during the winter this isn't an option). I can open 5 tabs one for each companys page.. Verizion, Cingular, T-mobile, Nextel, Virgin...etc. Is there a site that compares coverages, rates, fees and such.
Kind of a Geico for mobile coverages?

I did a quick search and found http://www.letstalk.com/ but not sure if it'll show you what you're looking for.

I have Cingular too and I have the same problem. I can't talk inside my house unless I want to put up with 1 bar of service. I always have to walk outside to get 3 bars or more to atleast hear who I am talking to.

Used to have Cingular, but the coverage was so incredibly spotty, I couldn't wait to get out of it. I've been using Verizon ever since (a number of years now) and the price was comparable, but more importantly, I have very few connection issues.

Each carrier is going to be different depending upon where you live, however.

go to http://www.howardforums.com or http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/ and ask what others have in your area that works best.

The best way to know is try another cell carrier on a trial basis. If it's better, keep it, otherwise return and move on to the next.

I have Verizon which is CDMA vs Cingular GSM. If I'm not mistaken, CDMA phones will show less bars than GSM phones but will still connect....just the nature of the system, so you can't really compare signal strength by # of bars. I consistently have zero bars at work but still can connect.

Also, if you're on a 1900 Mhz tower, generally it will not work as well indoors as a 800/850 Mhz tower having a longer wavelength which penetrates buildings better.

It wouldn't be wise to recommend which is likely the best carrier for your area, but CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? :P

Seriously, test other carriers. The only other option is to use an antenna or repeater.
