Apparently it was a Yankees pitcher who was flying the plane.

Jaimz Woolvett (The Schofield Kid): Yeah, well, I guess he had it comin'.

That is crazy, I walked into my appartment and my roomate said a plane hit a building and I was shocked for a minute because I thought it was terrorists again. But it is still sad if it is the yankees guy.

Cory Lidle was the pitcher.. they said they found his passport on the street.
Different reports have him as one of 4 passengers or another one says he was the sole passenger... ??
24 infotainment channels have to fill there time with something. Speculation does just find for them.

he used to pitch for the Blue Jays...tough news. It was sad to see the media just completely jump all over this with "suggestions" but nobody would come out and say what they were implying...
I guess that I can't blame them as they originally said that 9/11 was a "small plane into a building", but it was interesting to see the different media reports starting to come and the implications that they were making when there were few facts

He was an average pitcher, mid to back of the rotation.
All teams need player like him, they are the underappreciated players, the ones fans rip on during the season not realizing without him you would be ten games out.

He gave a distress call before crashing, and one eyewitness said the plane was flying erratically with smoke trailing it.
I'll take a guess: fire in the cabin. That's probably what kept him from deploying the parachute--he had one of those big parachutes that saves the entire plane.
Here a pic of the plane type he was flying:

He was just traded from the Phillies 2 months ago to the Yankees. There was an interview with him recently while still with the Phillies and they were asking him about his new purchase of the plane. He was saying that the plane is totally save and that if you run into trouble, you can pull the giant parachute to float you down and out of trouble. He seemed to love that feature as he discussed it in detail.

thanks to Spirit of Me for the sig!
