Stereoscopic displays -- gaming in real 3D.

I got the chance to play BF2 and a few other games using a stereoscopic display setup and let me tell you, it was awesome. Stereoscopic designs use two monitors, half-mirrored glass and polarized glasses to produce a 3D effect in conjunction with nVidia's 3D stereo display drivers.


Rather than describe the configuration the above picture does a better job at explaining how to physically set it up.

The addition of real depth perception makes a huge difference. Lobbing grenades is easier, driving/flying is easier, sniping is easier and aiming in general seems to be easier or rather, much more natural. Player models stand out much better from the background than they did before as now you can correctly see the distance between them and the wall or objects behind them.

The games are also much more intense while being able to see missiles fly at you, smoke has more depth, and when playing games like Doom it is much more intense with monsters jumping at you in 3D.

In short, I'm building my own 3D setup. Have fun in the lame world of mock 3D gaming on a 2D monitor.

On an unrelated subject, inspired from your signature: I was watching some murder mystery movie that pre-dated Star Trek and the doctor constantly said "I'm a doctor, not a [insert something here]!" throughout the entire movie. I'll have to ask my dad what the name of the movie was but it seemed like somebody got some inspiration from this movie when they made their TV series.

You can purchase everything you need for about 400 (the cheap side). If you already have an nVida card then all you need is a second monitor that is similar to your own, preferably the same model, a cheap half-mirrored piece of acrylic or glass and some fifty-cent 3D glasses. After that you can make a monitor stand out of anything that will support the weight or if you have the money, buy one. It's really not that expensive.

You can use virtually any monitor on the market.
