VIIV is a collection of hardware and software technologies that go inside a computer. VIIV is oriented around multimedia centers. Centrino is also "a collection of hardware and software technologies". These collections are not specific components but the mere presence of various types of components. For example, they could come out with a standard called "Awesome" and this standard dictates that in order for a computer to be branded as "Awesome" it must have: a monitor, keyboard, two hard-drives, and a network card. What those components actually are is irrelevant. The standard just dictates that they be there.

Here is a list of the qualifications of VIIV:

Any of the following processors:
* Intel Pentium D
* Intel Pentium Extreme Edition
* Intel Core Duo
* Intel Core 2 Duo
* Intel Core 2 Extreme
* Intel Core 2 Quad

Alongside one of the following chipsets:

* Intel 975X Express, 955X Express, 945G Express, 945P Express, 945GT Express, P965 Express, G965 Express or
* Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset

And one of the following network adapters

* Intel PRO/1000 PM, PRO/100 VE, or PRO/100 VM

Some of the other features for Viiv PCs include:

* Intel Matrix Storage Technology for setting up a RAID 0, 1, 5, or 10 array.
* Support for up to 1080i high-definition television
* Optional Integrated Media Server (IMS) - software designed to allow other portable devices in the same network.
* 64-bit processor running a 32-bit operating system.
* Gigabit ethernet controller (only with Intel PRO/1000 PM Network Adapter)
* Integrated digital video recorder (DVR)
* Optional TV tuner
* At least 5.1 channel audio, up to 7.1 audio
* Intel's Quick Resume technology: allows on and off in a few seconds like a normal VCR or DVD player
* Windows XP Media Center Edition with Update Rollup 2 or Windows Vista Home Premium or Ultimate, 32-bit versions.

The Cored 2 Duo E4500 is a specific model of a processor. A VIIV computer can have the Core 2 Duo E4500 processor in it.

Best show us what exactly you are comparing.

Weasel, you should ask your question on this thread. You are guaranteed an answer.

ok this is the info he gave me: he wants XP pro, not vista and I told him he would get the 22inch monitor on the side so disregard that.

The local place is Myoda computers out here by me. They do have a website http://www.myoda.com but if you go there you can haggle with them.....

He will be using the pc for some video compilations using windows movie maker, he takes and manages lots of pictures with his slr camera and scans 100's or 1000's of old pics that he gets from relatives.

The Dell looks like the better deal. More RAM, better video card and a 22 inch monitor. You still haven't provided what the Viiv (Myoda) computer's processor is. If they're telling you that processor is Viiv then I wouldn't buy from them since they don't know what they're talking about The Myoda computer should have at least a Core 2 Duo E 4500 in it. Stay away from the Pentium D or any other Pentiums, go for a Core 2 Duo.

The floppy disk isn't really needed and a second optical drive is nearly worthless as you can pick up an all-in-one CD/DVD-Burner for less than forty dollars.

Like I said, I'd go with the Dell, the only down side is Windows Vista which you can either install XP over it or deal with it.
