Ok here is the deal. I had limited to no connectivity Sunday. I called my ISP and they found that my ip was invalid. They helped me repair it through the control panel. That worked great Sunday. But yesterday and today it did the same thing. I called yesterday and it never repaired itself. It just keep renewing an invalid ip. So my ISP said it was my network card. Is there any way to solve this. Any suggestions would be great.
My specs are a piece of shit dell running windows XP. I did just reformat. I installed my network drivers just fine and had no problems for a week.
It seems to be hit or miss when I turn my PC on. I have a connection right now but who knows when I power down and power back up.
O and ps, Man the spam bots are out in force lately.

Tony,
We need some info. For starters;
What are you using DSL FIOS, Cable or ?. Windows XP or Vista. Are you using a router or firewall between your PC and the ISP's line into your house/home.
Also, does the Network Card have a solid LED (Link) and a blinking one (activity)? Does windows say that the network card is connected? The network cable snap into the network card or does it fall out easily?
Can you tell us what IP address it is getting (go to Start- select Run - type CMD and hit OK You should get a command prompt window. In that Windows type
Ipconfig / all.
Tell us what IP address, DNS and Gateway info you get.
I can take a look at the info in the morning.

I use cable. No router or firewall right now. Yes the card has a solid green light and a blinking orange one. The cord clicks in and stays in. Windows says I have limited connectivity or no connection until my ISP made me uncheck the "alert me when I have limited connectivity " in the control panel. Then it said connected.
I will get you the ipconfig thing as soon as someone tells me how to highlight, copy and past from the CMD.

Negative. As far as I know I only have one cable provider out here in the sticks.

To get the printout of the ipconfig, just click the top left corner of the command prompt box, select all, copy (or Ctrl-C) and then paste wherever you want to.

Been insanely busy this morning.
What do you get if you open that command prompt box again and type
ipconfig /release
Then
ipconfig /renew
Do you get a valid address? what address do you get from the Ipconfig /all?
BTW have you tried another network cable between the cable modem and your pc?
and... are you using another pc behind that cable modem to respond?
