something to do with that old 166 or 233 system

Ok maybe im a real geek or just happen to be lucky or both. Every once in awhile I get someone that will give me a old pentium 166 or 233 and it will have like 32 or 64 mb of ram and some simple vid card etc. Now many ppl would say that old piece of junk what would ya use it for a kids computer. Well actually I have put several of these systems to very good use and they are still up and running through out the US still today. I take a few spare nick cards and this old system and build a smoothwall. Now this is not a task to take lightly and you should read all the documentation and understand it but a smoothwall will give you a very nice dedicated router/firewall/vpn solution in one box for pretty cheap or free if you have the part laying around. So here is the link for Soothwall

floppy firewall is about as stripped down as you can get, doesn't require a hdd, fits on a floppy (hence the name, duh). You just don't get the gui.

Floppy firewall does not even compair to a smoothwall . The next closest thing that would compair in the linux world to a smoothie would be IPCOP. An for non linux would be a cisco pix or a sonicwall.
