Remember, men and women are wired differently. This is quite allright if you understand and accept the fact.
For men, conversation has a purpose. It's used to convey information. When we have nothing to say, we shut up. There is no hidden meaning in the message. When you tell your wife "let's go to the movies", what you really mean is "let's go to the movies". It is perfectly acceptable to call someone about a precise subject, talk about that subject, and then hang up. Once the information has been sent, there is no need to send it again. Thus, if you tell a woman "I love you" when you start a relationship, it remains valid until no longer true or one of you dies, so there is no need to ever say it again.
A typical phone call from my father is 40 seconds long and is usually about him needing my help to fix something in their house.
For women, conversation IS the purpose. The subject is irrelevant. There is a certain amount of talk that has to be done in order to feel secure about a relationship. Feelings have to be verbalized and repeated. Any message conveys any number of hidden meanings. When your wife says "let's go to the movies", what she really means is "We don't go out often enough. When you take me out to the movies, you invest some quality time with me and thus it means that you still love me".
A typical situation is a woman leaving a man because she's too unhappy and can't bear it any longer, while the bewildered man has no clue to the reason and goes through all past conversations in his head, vainly looking for the words "I am not happy and I will leave you if you don't change".
A typical phone call from my mother is 90 minutes long and no useful information is ever transmitted. When I hang up I still can't tell why she called.
Back to your problem, you think there's nothing much to talk about at night because you talked 10 times during the day, so there's no more information to share.
She calls you 10 times a day because she needs a certain amount of conversation with you, and she doesn't get it at home. It is a loud and clear signal that she's unhappy about something. It will only go worse until something breaks if you can't decode the hidden meaning.
This is all of course gross generalizations and amateur psychology, but it's based on experience.
Have fun
