New Front Yard...... Cost??
Any ideas?
My grass is still toast, I never could recover it from that drought last year. How much does a new lawn cost, any clue? Anyone here ever replace their grass? My front yard is about 30 x 100.

I believe we've got one guy who is a chemlawn expert, I am sure he'll give you the lowdown before the day is out.

Hmm didn't realize it was for So. Cal. But my point was, use sod it shouldn't cost much for the area you have to cover. It is easy as hell to put down.

My lawn is pretty much in the same boat as yours. Constant 100'+ temps., little to no protection from the sun, and very little rain all year. It's in pretty bad shape.

Just rake up the old stuff, get some top soil, about 2 inches thru out, and put the sod over top, and water the crap out of it, 2 inches of water a week, measure with a tuna can (one inch) when it hits that in that spot, just move it to the next area
Make sure that the damage wasn't caused from Chinch bugs, or Grubs or you will be doing it again next year.....
go to the Trugreen website, lots of information there
http://www.trugreen.com
and remember it stays green, when you cut it at 4"'s raise mower deck to take one third of grass blade at a time, example mover deck should be on the highest setting, take one inch off, each cut, never bag clippings. The grass clipping is 90 % water, so what you are doing is feeding that lawn once a week, in my area I get my landscaper in the spring and fall to cut every week, if not my lawn would be 7 inches tall, and in the hotter months cut every other week, a key to find out if you need to cut, eould be when you measure the lawn and its 4"'s high.....Also something to think about, if you forget to cut or go away on vacation, its ok to bag your clippings, because you don't want the clippings to do damage to the lawn.
My 2 cents and 14 years experience, call TruGreen*ChemLawn you cheap ass, they do installs on lawn and landscape, at least get a quote, and remember they stand behind their work, let them know you have a relative that works for TruGreen in Somerset, Pa, they will give you 10 percent off

Great site, only problem is the grass types in So Cal, are way different then the cool season grass types my man White needs, I laugh when I come up to a lawn that has Zoysia grass in Pa, first off Zoysia grass is made for Florida, some when people plant this in Pa, there lawn is dormant from Feb all the way thru Jun, greens in July, and half of August, then goes dormant thru the rest of the year.
All Sun seed with Kentucky Blue
and Rye
All Shade seed with Fine Fiscue
and Rye
Cool Season states the best grass seed to get would be
Penn State Blen
Kentucky Ble, Rye and fine Fiscue mixture
Also you do it yourselvers
Scotts Four Step is made in Cal.
What would they know about a 4 step program that works in the cool season states???
August is a month where most of our competitors customers start coming to me, they talk alot of game about green up, but in reality, its not just about the greenup but more about the root development, DIY (do it yourself) peeps as well come over becomes they know that our weed control is 2nd to none, and the lawn needs root development and not the green up that comes from rain ( has alot of Nitogen) anywoo
