Those that were in the closed beta got CD's because it was financially viable. Now that the game's in open beta, it would cost a tad too much to send out multiple CD's to 30,000+ people.

servers were down yesterday till 4 for maintanence. the game is the same wether you download it or install the cds. it only took me about 22 hrs to install the patches.

22 hours? holy shit man. 3 and 1/2 hours after I got my acceptance email I was playing the game.
