What are you using in your system?

Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

Plexi-Glass?

Postby Lord ZOG » Mon Jan 13, 2003 1:15 am

That's to prevent the aliens from reading my hard drive.

Actually, it's clear plexi-glass. It looks a lot better in person. For some reason it didn't photograph well, but believe me it looks good.

The case comes in many colors. This one is black, but I wanted the red one!! Sweet!!

This is my first PC since the times of the Commodore Amiga!!!

Built it only 3 months ago, overcklocked by myself...and stable!!!!

Epox 8K5A2+ KT333
Radeon 9700 @ 275/275 (for now)
Duron 1.1 @ 1322MHz (6.5x201MHz fsb) Vcore=1.9v
256MB of Crucial PC2700 @ 402MHz Vdimm=2.75v
40Gb Maxtor ATA100 7200rpm
Aluminium case ( 7 fans)
350W PSU
CD48x
Windows98SE
Cable Modem 128Kbs dwn , 68Kbs up (yes cable modem) :(

I'm getting an XP2200 next month, will unlock (very easy on the XP2200 hehehe) and try to get it past 2Ghz! Only then, I might consider overclocking my Radeon to 325/325.

3Dmark=11446
My FR will sometimes drops as low as 25fps on BF1942 for some reason... :(

Here is the case I just ordered for my new comp listed in my last reply, check it out, ordered it with 4 fans but it will have 6 in it when I'm done. 6 very well places 80 mm fans.:D I put the FUTURE 400w PS in it cause its a decent price for what I get. No way would I pay that much for the better enermax although yes it is nice.http://www.electroseller.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=electroseller&Product_Code=AL_4350BK_QWIN

no prob tool... It is always great to hear others building their own pc.. and finding out how great of an experience it can be. Who knows, before too long you will find yourself building pc's for others (and unfortunately being their lifetime support), but it is great fun.. I have been checking out that site, but I can't go with out sharing a couple of my own..

The one stop shop for pc mods..

and

this place always has hard to beat prices - and free shipping on most items!

cheers!!

Yeah meatsheild I'm in Tech school right now to be a network admin / hardware technician so I'm sure this is just the beginning of me building computers, I'm having an experienced guy help me out though, He's built 50+ computers so he is quite aware of what to do. I'm just gonna go through and do what I can. I know how to do everything but jumpers right off the top of my head, I just don't know what order to do things in after the first several items but its all gonna work out great. I still have to wait for a pay check to order the processor, 1 gig ram, 40g 7200rpm hd, and asus motherboard, that should all be about 650$ with all my rebates so I just can't wait DAMN!!! Edogg thanks for the kewl sites man, I'm definatly going to keep some of them in mind for the future although I think I have my mind set on saving for an alienware or atleast getting a koolance case to start my next project(2 years from now probabily) again, Thanks all and have good times.:D

go Tool go... Glad to hear you have a mentor to sponge knowledge from, and keep on truckin with the schoolin, working in the tech fields, you will never stop learning... and if your weakest area is jumpers, you definately have it made, since it is very rare to see jumpers anymore in modern equipment. The newest motherboards are bios controlled, as is about everything else, and if you do happen to come across an older system, online documents from the vendor will be a godsend. one other thing... Alienware case= Antec or chieftec (chieftec is cheaper) but does not have the Alienware molding down the front. Edogg, nice sites, especially that xoxide.com site. Their plexiglass cases are pretty sweet..

...sorry another $0.02 worth...
Tool...looking at your planned config, if you are running the P4 cpu/motherboard, please make sure that you find out the board takes either rhombus or DDR memory. The majority of P4 boards use the rhombus and a gig worth would be much $$$ (must buy in pairs). Also if you haven't already bought the cpu/motherboard, consider AMD hardware... cheaper and just as powerful.. ;) keep us posted!!

I personally like intel, so I'm staying with them. Consulting with the company I'm getting everything else from, my board will handle 2 sticks of 512MB DDRram PC2100, so I'm going with that because its 64 bit at 1/4 the speed of rhombus 16 bit 4/1 the speed so its the same speed. $125 a piece for the 512 sticks of pc2100.
