What are you talking about?! Liberal?! Read this article about it: http://money.cnn.com/2004/11/11/news/fortune500/savingpvt_ryan/index.htm?cnn=yes

I quote: "Affiliates in Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina and West Virginia said they were worried about running afoul of the Federal Communications Commission in Washington."

With the sole exception of Massachusetts, those states are all looking pretty conservative to me... More censorship goes against the very definition of the term "liberal." Thank god you're not old enough to vote, and In case you didn't know, here's the Oxford Dictionary for you...

Sorry Evan- but thread still open and I gots to reply-

Your reference is as afforded to what is known as a Classical Liberal- more of what a Liberterian is. Nowdays a Liberal is more often than not left of center riding towards social engineering or socialism. Government is able to solve things etc.ie. France The bastard child of socialism is communism an extreme form of socialism

One of the biggest backers of Our President was the Ultra Christian ie Pat Robertson. Now that he has been re elected he will do what they want and that includes censoring stuff they want ie war /sex / drugs come on people wake up

And your opinion is completely wrong and has no backing what-so-ever.

You are blaming 'liberal' tv stations for the FCC's hard nosed stance.

More waltons re-runs, that's what you all need. That'll fix all your countries problems. Because as you all know all gun crime, drug dealing and poverty are caused by kids watching the wrong tv shows...

The only good thing I can take from recent developments is that the pendulum swings both ways. After a couple of years in Jesusland that ole pendulum is going to swing way back toward a progressive, intelligent gameplan.

Well, I think this has gotten a bit off topic, but afaik, SPR has played for about 3 years now uncut and unedited on veterans day with no one getting so up tight about it and the FCC not issuing any fines. I think the whole Janet Jackson thing has got a lot of stations worried and they don't want to incrue a fine...I don't think it has anything to do with morals...it's about the money...

Darn right it is about the money. The JJ thing was just the begining. All of a sudden Howard Stern is bad, yet he has been doing the same thing for years.

The stations that are going to preempt the movie requested an advance waiver to show the movie, teh FCC declined to issue it.

With the way the FCC is nowadays and if I owned a station, I would not air it if they declined the waiver.

Howard Stern really nailed it. His first show after the Superbowl, he said "we're all in a lot of trouble now"
It's amazing that one nipple should send shockwaves like this through our country.
I am quite shocked too that one the TV stations not playing SPR is WMUR, right here in conservative NH. By conservative, I don't mean political parties, but general attitude. NH is normally a very 1950s type of state.
What's driving all this behavior is fear. Everybody is afraid of the 'Other' and they overreact to every little move. People (on both sides) should settle down and stop being afraid. The World isn't ending, we are just progressively scaring the sh*t out of each other.
Like I say, this to shall come to pass.
