What is wrong with you people? What ever happened to personal freedom? Nobody.. especially the "government" or conservative's who've watched "Reefer Madness" too many times, should have the right to tell me what I can and cannot do to myself or put in my body.
The act of participating in recreational drug use is a victimless crime. Sure it needs to be regulated to keep it out of the hands of youngsters, just like alchohol, but don't make me a criminal for doing what civilized humans have done for thousands of years.
The war on drugs is unwinnable and immoral. The illegalization of drugs causes more harm and hearache than if they were legalized and regulated to be cleaner.

Before it is said, there is no way you can tell me every bit of grass sold in the states supports terrorists. Grass is too bulky to grow and ship and still make a profit, compared to cocaine and heroin. Most grass is grown indoors by domestic growers. As for any report that says otherwise, that guy needs a new dealer.

Personally I don't see why people constantly bitch about not having legalized pot.
You know that if they legalized it, the big corperations would control it and make you pay more for it than you pay now, and you know there wouldn't be quality control, and then the big corps would demand that a bill be poassed requiring a marijuana liscence to grow it, and penalize everyone who didn't, and then they would start "importing" it again so they could get it cheaper and still be put in jail.

Well, let me just say, lets all give code red a hand for elaborating on a very important subject: freedom....ever thought what that means? These are a few quotes taken from Franklin Roosevelt's:Four Freedom. " As a nation we may take pride in the fact that we are soft-hearted; but we cannot afford to be soft-headed. We must always be wary of those who with sounding brass and a tinkling cymbal preach the ism of appeasement. We must especially beware of that small group of selfish men who would clip the wings of the American eagle in order to feather their own nests. The best way of dealing with the few slackers or
trouble-makers in our midst is, first, to shame them by
patriotic example, and if that fails, to use the sovereignty
of government to save government.
The basic things expected by our people of their political
and economic systems are simple. They are :
Equality of opportunity for youth and for others.
Jobs for those who can work.
Security for those who need it.
The ending of special privilege for the few.
The preservation of civil liberties for all.
The enjoyment of the fruits of scientific progress in a
wider and constantly rising standard of living.
These are the simple, the basic things that must never be
lost sight of in the turmoil and unbelievable complexity of
our modern world. The inner and abiding straight of our
economic and political systems is dependent upon the degree to which they fulfill these expectations."
First, lets all admit that the majority of peep have no idea what good marijuana is, and have more than likely, only been exposed, or know another who has been exposed, to very low grade, what is known as dirt, chicken, garbage herb. For those who have been lucky enough to be exposed to high quality, superbly grown mary j, the kind that blows ur socks off, 2 hitter quitter, and I mean, 2 hits, and even if u have a tolerance to mary j, u still just cant hardly smoke any more, or u can , but u know, what ur limit is to any substance, or drug is, and are aware of ur buzz, and u feel euphoric effects. Heck, any tard can go out and smoke some ragweed marijuana and say it sucks, ya it does. I can also go to the store, buy some shlitz malt liquor, and some basic lights, or dorals, and say, hey I really dont like smoking and drinking, and then u think, hey, why should anyone want to have these things available, since ur experience was negative. Not to say that the buzz will be totally different from say, Hennessey X.O. and Marlboros, but it's definately a more enjoyable experience in comparison. That said, anyone who doesnt know a specific person who grows the herb, and has to go thru middle men to get some decent herb, will definitely pay more money for quality product, up to 5 times or more, depending on the quality and who that person knows. That's assuming that you dont want to take the chance to grow it, as most dont have enough knowledge or experience to make good quality or quantity. Just fyi, one pack of cigs has about an ounce of mary j. If u think the gov't cant find a way to make money on it, then u really must be living in a dreamworld.
Now what is a drug?
Encyclopædia Britannica Article :any chemical substance that affects the functioning of living things and the organisms (such as bacteria, fungi, and viruses) that infect them. Pharmacology, the science of drugs, deals with all aspects of drugs in medicine, including their mechanism of action, physical and chemical properties, metabolism, therapeutics, and toxicity.
That said, to put it simply, and the easiest way to put it, if u rely on any drug, yes, alchohol and tobacco both are dangerous drugs, then really have no business to tell anyone that they can do this drug, but not this one. How many people are in therapy for beating a spouse, child, or loved one, or becoming almost a different person, one who is violent , and reacts without thinking, because that person smoked too many joints? I really have to laugh at the post that only lazy peep smoke weed, hahahhahhaha, oo, hahahhah ok im done, maybe u need to educate yourself, as code red had stated earlier about important political officials, and people in authority, why do u think there is a term"drinking and driving?", instead of "smoking and driving", yea, there is a reason, one impairs an individual more than another, especially at higher levels.
Second, cigarettes, wow its amazing to me that anyone would defend these cancer sticks, but o well, even when I did smoke, which I did for about a decade, I knew it was very hazardous to my health, as I learned to read at a young age
(just read the label) I quit about a year ago, and I quit drinking, and I must say, my view on them both has not changed at all, as to if I think another has the right legally to use these drugs. The gov't can find a way to make money on anything, but to think that they will make quality mary j more expensive than on the street, is a bit ridiculous. One thing is sure, how many people do u see who have a tobacco garden, in which they grow their own tobacco, maintain it, cut it, dry it, and roll it up, LOL, and then illegally resell it to a tobacco junkie? Hmm
Its perfectly fine by me, if Joe Blow wants to drink a gallon o whiskey, or moonshine, chase the dragon, float thru his mind on a hallucinogenic drug, smoke a hub, dub, cig, or goto some fast food joint and eat unhealthy, or choose to not exercise, or voice his opinion, whether I agree or not, as u see, its not YOUR decision, its only your perception of what is appropriate for u, for ur beliefs of what is acceptable of a person, and what is not. Now, if Joe Blow wants to sell to kids, get kids high, not take care of his kids, by that I mean to not feed, provide shelter, or physically or mentally abuse them, or anyone else to the point of being harmful, ya I have a major beef with that. I dont really have an issue with Joe Blow going to some guy, buying an illegal drug, and reselling it for a greater profit, as in moonshining, doubling-up, or just buying something for less and selling for more, thats just a way to make money, and if Joe needs to sell that to feed his family because he lives in, say an inner city slum, and the gov't has failed him in providing him with an opportunity for employment, or unsufficient funds from that employment, then I can understand that, although I dont think the majority is in this situation, and just look for fast cash. One thing is sure, all people have a breaking point, and a view of what they think is acceptable of a way of life. I think some peep forgot totally about prohibition, or still havent been educated as to what really happened.
Maybe some peep dont have the time to understand what our rights as americans entails, that freedom, and the ability to act freely, should not have a price tag. Our founding fathers would vomit if they could see how many freedoms have been either ignored, or trampled upon by the governments of all nations, including our own. The really sad part is, that the majority of people have neither been exposed to, have the desire to understand, or the willingness to change, because they feel it is pointless. I say, yes, one voice is enough to teach the truth, or at least teach the ability to think outside the box, to outwit those who do not abide by the truth, to overcome ignorance, so that all people are educated, informed, and able to make their own decisions, and have the right to do so. A friend once told me that I should be happy with the government, because america is more free than most countries, or according to their view anyway. Hmm, to me thats like saying, hey, Sadaam's not a bad guy, at least, he's not as bad as Hitler. When we start settling for anything less than complete freedom, and the ability to act on these freedoms, as it was written by many intelligent men years ago.
Btw, if anyone still thinks we justly went to war, to stop "terror", even though we went to the wrong country to stop the terror that started the war(9/11),Bin Laden was in Afghanistan, not Iraq, because if we had went in to stop Sadaam on a humanitarian level, we would have long ago, I urge you to watch Uncovered:The War On Iraq. Now again, I must say, did the majority forget about Vietnam too? It makes me nauseous to think of innocent people dying for the wrong reasons, not that any reason is a good reason. It seems thesedays most don't react, or feel obligated to react, or try to change, the unjustices of the world or those in power, and accept falsehoods as truths, until it directly affects them or their loved ones. When those of intelligence think inside the box, when all think alike, when all follow the same direction, so as not to stand out in the crowd, then they have lost the knowledge it takes to perceive the world objectively and the ability to understand the truth, or act on all that stands for truth, justice, and the american way.

I gave up cigs and drinking, yay me!
I agree, however, it's already been tried. The early 1900s proved that it's too hard to rid of people's customs, backgrounds, etc. to just banish alcohol. The prohibitionists tried it and failed:-p

I really think they should try and completely stop selling cigarettes, its very bad, and im trying really hard to quit at 20 years old and I dont think I can. and I dont think weed will ever be legal in the US, It is a drug, causing visiual impairments, physical and mental instabilitys while smoking. (i used to smoke everyday, but now im down to a bone or two on the weekends, sometimes not tho)
Great post PhantomEagle. I hope everyone took the time to read his post in full (it was long) because it nails it.
The general, ignorant public don't want to take responsibility for themselves. They want to lay blame on inanimate objects and cry for mother government to bail them out.
Wally, I am sorry you cannot stop smoking cigarettes. Does that mean the rest of us have to suffer because you are weak? You are 20 years old.. hmmm.. the last I checked, we knew cigarettes were bad for you in 1984. I think we knew they were bad 30 years before that as a matter of fact.
I don't smoke cigarettes because I made a choice not to. That doesn't mean you should follow my choice and I have no right to ask or force you too. Hell, I think cigarettes are great! They are fun to smoke and where would all our "Old West" movies be without cowboys smokin' Marlboro's? I say smoke as much as you want. And the poor tobacco companies have to pay fines out the arse because people cannot take responsibility for thier own actions. Does anyone care that it is the huge tobacco crops that is keeping the south employed? (I may be exaggerating here).
And the idea of making coco cola and coffee illegal? WHAT? I hope that is not a serious statment. Again, let's take away what we find as pleasurable. Let people enjoy life for christ's sake. Your all going to die one way or the other. Look at George Burns... the guy smoked at least a cigar every day of his life and live to over a hundred.
But not to get off the subject. We are really just talking about freedoms and personal responsibility.

Btw, just to add to my extremely long post, because freedom is as important to me as breathing, did u guys ever think back to say, Watergate? I mean poor old Nixon knew about a bit o shady business, participated somewhat, but at least he admitted it. Its as if this war has been another kind of conspiracy, and the scary part, is that even when the truth, or even a glimpse of the truth, or a question about the truth being the real truth, comes out, movies, documentaries made, those behind the conspiracy pay no consequence, or admit a wrong doing, as if nothing ever happened. This administration has sent young, innocent people, soldiers, fighting for "freedom", or so they think, overseas to kill other people, mostly poverty-stricken, and all the while the truth about it all is unfolding on documentaries, not the mainstream media. I am ashamed that I believed some of the bs that was shoveled into our minds after 9/11. Bush is completely and totally correct when he said we need to "stop the TERROR", only it seems the real terror is not overseas, but at home. Who can the public believe when the truth is not the truth, not the whole truth, not half truth, not part truth, or some truth, along with lies, especially when these very truths are what makes the "land of the free", send the innocent to war? When justice is forgotten, who is it that steps up and fights for freedom, when the army of the free is no longer fighting for freedom? Btw, dont take my word for it, I am not an expert, watch the freakin movie Uncovered:The War On Iraq. Finally, I am not anti-government at all, as long as that government is for the people, by the people, and never ever, not even remotely, bends the truth for their own agendas, especially when innocent human life is invovled. Have a good day:)
OK I am going to drop my $.02 into the mix here.
Smoking pot is a choice! When people start taking away my choices because they do not agree with what I am doing then I feel like hunting you down and killing your fascist ass. Same goes for people who want to take away a woman's right to choose what to do with her body.
For those of you who think that only unmotivated people smoke pot, look at where you are having this disscussion. On a freaking video game message board. Many people think that playing video games makes you stupid. Should we take away your choice in this matter? I think you would scream bloody murder at that point.
But hey it's only stoners we are talking about and they are only fit to pump your gas, bag your groceries, and pick dog shit out of your lawn. They are not motivated, they are loosers, they are all like"wow man pot rulz". You sound as ignorant as the people you are supposedly mocking.

Prohibition never works unless your goal is to make money off of locking people up. Or porkbarrelling drugwar funds.
People we are SPENDING BILLIONS of dollars on this stuff. It makes no sense. None at all. Hell the DEA thinks pot is the 4th largest cash crop in the country. Tobacco is only 7th. So why don't we fucking legalize and stop being a bunch of puritans. We could easily RAISE BILLIONS of dollars a year.
Think of all the other fun wars we could have then.
