Back on topic...
Lordshard, try isolating the problem by connecting your PC on a hub with another PC. Then try pinging the other PC. If it responds, you don't have a driver problem.
Don't worry about the loopback test, it SOULD fail unless you have a loopback plug in the network port.
Also try "WINIPCFG /release *local*" before "WINIPCFG /renew" (that's the syntax for IPCONFIG on Win XP).
If all else fails, a reinstall of Win98 might be necessary.

Can't ping diddly squat. Even wrote down the info from the slackwqare partition and plugged it in so it woulnd't need the DHCP, and that doesn't work iether.Originally posted by Chacal

When you try to renew you get error 37 I think it was. Takes a while to do that. Iether that it immediatly says error but I don't remember the error.
