the graphics card is the most important. most games these days are GPU based, meaning they tax the video card more than they do the CPU. BF2 will require a fast CPU, but also a hefty video card. you'd be able to get away with a slower processor if you still had a fast video card.
the best of the best for vid cards right now, are the ATI Radeon X800 XTPE, and the Nvidia 6800 ultra.
the nvidia 6800 GT is also an awesome card for the price. quire reasonable, not as fast as the x800 xt pe or 80oo ultra, but faster than the x800 pro.
6800 GT is the best bang for the buck at the moment. i want one to replace my aging 9800 pro

Sometimes, one Finger is all you need.

Personally for the ammout that you have stated I woudl go with nothing less than a Athlon64 system with high end graphics card and at minimum 1 gig of ddr400 memory This will allow you to have the most growth in the future. Also a key note DDR2 is not as fast as most of teh ddr400 gaming ram look at the latency when buying memory the lower the #s the faster the ram. Now Newegg.com and tigerdirect.com have some good base bundles that you can easily add the vidcards memory etc that you want. Hope this helps
