Yeah a lot of english bands sound american. I can't think of an american band that I think sounds british to me though.

The king of this effect has to be Phil Lynott, lead singer of a 70s group called 'Thin Lizzy'. They had a hit called 'The Boys are Back in Town". The lead singer was born in England, raised in Ireland. This guy not only sounded American, he sound like he was from a specific place in a America, in fact he sounded exactly like someone who was from Brooklyn, NY. You've probably heard the song before, even if you don't recognize the title. Everytime I hear it I crack up.
Oh well, we gave you guys 'Spinal Tap', all those guys are American, and to me their accent sounds fake, but I hear plenty of British people say they mostly sound authentic.

wow, that blows my theory to hell. I figured that maybe everyone sounded 'native' when they sang.

Well, after a google search I have learned new things.

A magical evening 2005-08-29

a-ha in Frognerparken

Whenever a-ha plays in Norway, it tends to be some kind of event. Saturday's concert in Frognerparken was no exception: it was the largest concert ever held on Norwegian soil. Reports vary, but between 120,000 and 150,000 people came to see a-ha in Frognerparken, and the band did not disappoint - once again they proved why they are Norway's biggest pop stars. Norway's largest news paper called the concert a historic moment.

They're still magical, apparently.

I forgot about those guys! Yeah, they're not from Ireland, at least I don't think so! That would be an even bigger surprise.

On the video:
Laughed my ass off at it when it was on TV - even "rewound" TiVo like 7 times to see it again and again. Yeah I remember the original one too. Hell, I even remember the "story" going on.

Family Guy rocks because it throws in oddball references all over the place. Among my favorites are that A-Ha spoof and the "Fishy Fishy" guy w/ long arms from Monty Python's Meaning Of Life.

On Thin Lizzy:
Who hasn't heard of them? :D Their big hit wasn't just overplayed in the mid 70's and early 80's... It was mutilated and plastered all over Toy Story 2 promos.

Not that it's reliable but check out this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thin_Lizzy

I love how the majority of the references to their contribution to music is just "The Boys Are Back In Town".

As for bands who don't sound like where they're from, my current annoyance is Green Day. They're from California but try to come off sounding like Brit Punk complete with horridly annoying fake accent. They just piss me off.

I suppose it helps that I just don't like Green Day.
