Nice Pigvomit. I have no rules about music. If it makes me head bang and wanna mosh or jump up and down or relax with a nice bowl then I'm all over it. I've become amazed as I got more and more away from old friends and their definitions what I actually really enjoy listening to.

That was where you lost me, with the Jazz...

Funny because even some of the worst jazz musicians not only sound better than the bullshit on the radio today, have more talent in one finger than the bullshit popular bands out there today.

Jazz, untalented, what a load of shit.

Great band, they have some nice remasters in DVD-A.

FYI, Chevy Chase was their original drummer.

Bands/artists and possibly specific albums that are amazing:

Nick Drake: Pink moon, one of the single greatest albums ever recorded. Shame he died so young.

Talking Heads

The Shins are a newer band that are great.

Ween, everything after the album Satan is good.

Miles Davis: Bitches Brew. Davis comes up with the formula acid + jazz = waterfall of amazing sound.

We should also add what people use to listen to music to. Personally, I am insane when it comes to home audio.

Main speakers:Rocket RS550

Headphones:
Grado SR125

All running off an HK 525 receiver(soon to be replaced).

Didn't care for the movie much, but you seem to believe the line.

Those are some nice speakers Jimmy. I just bought a Harman Kardon AVR 7200 receiver from a friend for dirt cheap and love it :). The power it produces is amazing and makes my whole complex shake :D. I have it running to some old NHT surround speakers with a 2-way center channel and a 12-inch JBL sub. The sound is good but I think I need to play with the settings some more because the mid-range is lacking.

Now for music. If you like dance/electronic music mixed with rock or just want to hear something different. I recommend LCD Soundsystem and the rest of the DFA (Death From Above) crew. Their album has been on heavy rotation on my ipod for the past 6 months and they've been nominated for 2 Grammies this year.

I'm still useing a stereo i got for christmas when i was 13 (1995). it's a Pioneer SX-253R stereo reciever teamed with 2 Kenwood 3 way, 3 speaker KS-H52 speakers. i swear it sounds better today than ever. i have my computer hooked to it so i can play anything i want through it and it sounds badass even when it's fuckin loud as hell (the best way to listen to music). oh yeah and i was in jazz band for like 5 years :D.

I don't really have a favorite band. But I do have a fovorite guitar player. Yngwie Malmsteen<-- go ahead laugh. You guys need to do to Pandora.com. It's pretty much a personal DJ. Type in the artist you like and it will play songs by them and other bands with the same style. Maybe you'll discover New bands..

I still have the 3 stereo components i bought in high school also. all Kenwood something or other, cd deck, receiver, etc.... still works like a charm 15 years later.

Music wise I don't limit myself to 1 style of music, if i like it I listen to it. I have seen Metallica, Crue, GNR, in concert, also Tim Mcgraw, Reba, Faith, Alan Jackson, Chesney, Garth, along with Linkin Park, Staind, STP, POD, Static X. Cheap trick, ramones. 80's bands, Cinderella, Leppard, Poison, Winger etc...

I love Disturbed, Godsmack, new bands i seem to like Click Five, they sound like the Beatles, good music that I can put on when the kids are around and not get in trouble with the wife.

mmm cheap speakers

Postby ferret963 » Fri Dec 16, 2005 9:19 am

While in college I wouldn't say I have much budget for speakers. So, this summer I went with just a cheaply set of Klipsch ProMedia GMX D-5.1 Digital Speaker System. (yes they stopped making them) I was really suppressed, for like $150.00 shipped these speakers sound great! I have em hooked up to my dvd player and are cool for movies/music what ever. I didn't feel like shelling out the cash for their speaker stands so I just made some floor stands myself for the rear speakers out of some oak I had left over. Overall they sound great, really great! Only problem is being they are a cheaper speaker they have an internal ground loop issue when I use the RCA conn. Luckily these babies support optical and that other one that is like rca but better and only 1...yea im not like a speaker nerd. Any way, a slight little hum can be heard when it is dead silent, you know maybe my dog can hear it during a movie but I can't! Overall id give it a 4 out of 5

ferret, the hum is a ground loop problem.

Does the sub have a power cable with the third prong on it(the ground)?

No, it just has 2 prongs. I think the problem is internal then right?
