I haven't used the SLI feature yet. Truth be told, I really think I'll switch back to ATI once they get more squared away with Crossfire. I hate Nvidia, I really do. Everytime I use Nvidia, I feel that my system just isn't as stable. I always have more 'events' than I do with ATI. I'm not talking a pc that crashes every ten minutes, just a slight dip in stability over the long run with NVidia. ATI just seems a little more solid to me.
PS, don't anyone write back and ask 'are you using updated drivers' -if you do, I'll kill you and rape your dead corpse!

I've got a BFG 6800 Ultra OC (256MB). I thought I'd go ahead and get another one and see how much the SLI helped. Can't get the card anymore (new at least, found some overpriced used cards). From what I've seen, you need to have the exact same cards for SLI to work. I'm still getting good frame rates in SF, so I guess I'll wait a while and pick up a 7800 when the prices come down. I'm on the flip side from you. I've had way too many problems with ATI cards.
And back to the topic of processors. For a gaming rig stay away from the dual cores. Games are generally not multi-threaded and gain next to nothing from having a second core. Applications like DVD authoring and video conversion are what benefit from dual cores. For the price difference on a gaming system I'd just move up to the highest single core you can afford. Your game is going to be the most processor intensive app you are going to run. The other apps you run while playing like team speak are nowhere near as CPU intensive. Having a second core for them would just be overkill. A really fast single core will be able to handle the game and everything else.
Granted this is just my opinion from when I was last comparing CPU features and cost. (June timeframe)
i have amd 2800+ cpu,asus mb,1gig of ram,ati 9800pro
i have my system set at agressive in bio's,no probs running bf2 or anyother game
also i shutdown alot of unneeded sevices in windows, i also set my router on dmz an shutdown spi in the wan options when i play{not safe cause your connection is wide open}
