Ahhh...yes. But everyone wanted to run them faster even though they couldn't keep up... buffer overflow? X/On X/Off? DTR-flow control (remember Okidata and the pin 11 flow control?)? If it wasn't for flow control, I probably wouldn't still be in communications today (I enjoyed doing things that others didn't understand - still do. Although, there are a lot of network guys out there these days that know a hell of a lot more than I do...).

I tried every combination of those settings switches and never got a baud more than 300 :(

Then I bought a 1200-baud modem for my C64!!! Freeeedooooom!

Hardest part was coding an APL terminal in assembler for the C64...

Yep. I have to confess, I was a closet geek. Played D&D, Watched 'Monty Python's The Holy Grail' a million times. But at school I put on a different face. My friends from earlier in life were all potheads, so tried to keep that image in HS. My secret identity. But the when school bell rang, I raced home, put on a pocket protector and serial killer glasses and became...SuperGeek!

I predict in the future we wont need any more kinesthetic ability to operate a computer. Gone will be the days of twitch hand eye coordination with just eye brain coordination :(

Who doesn't remember their first....

Kaypro XT, 8086 processor, 4.77 MHz with an 8 MHz turbo setting, two 5-1/2" drives. I forget how much RAM it had and DOS version. Everything got too coomplicated after that.
