I think the problem is that most people have never taken a proper typing class. I did in high school many years ago. It taught me basic principles of finger placement which were thought out along when the qwerty keyboard was invented. Having to move your fingers from the 'rest' position is not what you want to do to type the fastest. The keyboard is laid out so that the most often typed letters are at your fingertips, litterally. Although like all things, it takes a little practice to learn, in the end the results are worth it.

mmm typing. Still have to look down a few times here and there but the basics (ASDF JKL; ) seem to never work
