ANSWER

ANSWER

*Warning Spoiler below for the riddle*

If you look at the chart below it explains how the Blind Man knew without a doubt what color his hat was.

In the chart A=Clear Eyed Man, B=One Eyed Man, C=Blind Man, and D shows what would of happened if the combination across ABC would have taken place, also D/N means the first two people would not be able to know for sure what color they were wearing.

The Blind Man knew his hat was Red because he knew all of the possible combinations that could take place for the five hats. If you look at the graph there is seven different combinations; and in each of the combinations where the One Eyed Man and the Clear Eyed Man did not know the color of their own hat, the Blind Man’s hat was Always Red. Also in unison if any of the other combinations resulted the blind man would know that his hat color was Always White because whenever either the One Eyed Man or the Clear Eyed Man knew the color of their own hat and correctly knew/Guessed on their hat his hat was without a doubt white.

A B C D

w r w b=red
w w r d/n
r w w a-red
r r w b-red
r w r d/n
r r r d/n
w r r d/n

My teachers answer was that whether or not since the two eyed guy didn't know his hat it eliminated alot of the possibilities so you were left with a graph like this...

Two Eyed one eyed Blind
R R
R W
W R

Then in the graph he had the middle R W crossed out and the two R's in the second columb circled together making a backwards c...It pretty much means that the last two hats could not of been R W...I don't remember what he said but I like my explanation better...

Your ANSWER looks familiar StL Lunatic -- it looks alot like my post :-) Your ANSWER even shares the trait of no explaination for getting rid of the last possible permutation(RRW).

"Hats off" to SavageParrot for getting directly to the answer without any math using (after reading carefully several times) a simpler logic-only argument.
