pfft nortons been picking that up for years now. You just have to make damn sure you check what you are downloading and bever open anything untill you have scanned it for viruses.

Serioulsy though I never buy new cds. I get them later on sale. If they just brought them out at the sale price in the first place I'd probably buy a lot more albums...

But, that's not nearly as fun! I usually use the same made up seven digits which makes me wonder if there's some poor sap getting phone calls from Yankee Candle.

Heh. It's probably bob@hotmail.com getting them all.

What he means is that now Mom and Pop themselves cant rip your ass off and make a better living than they should anymore.
Nobody is forced to work at Wal-mart. If these mom and pop places don't like it, I guess they werent that good to begin with.

I guess i didn't make my point clear or it wasn't thought out enough. More than likely, both.

I'll just point out why i like mom and pop shops or smaller companies for that matter, when in comparison to walmart or the like.

These are just my observations.

Mom and Pop shops depend on better customer service and quality because their business is dependant on word of mouth and lesser forms of advertisement.

Staff is generally more knowledgeable and willing to help than larger companies.

Competetion between two smaller shops is better than no competition with a bigger companhy.

Now, being a small business owner myself, (one that is not affected by walmart and the like) i've found that working longer hours and putting in the extra effort for myself with the help of a few trustworthy individuals is worth every hour of an 18 hour day than it ever was when i worked for Best Buy and only worked a four hour shift.

Oh and Wesley, im gonna have to disagree with you that

Its kind of hard to handle goliath when you are david without the sling.

Take your old lady to bed and breakfast and then to a holiday inn express.

Go to walmart for info on a gaming system then go to gamestop.

Go buy something off ebay from a major company on there with 92% feedback and then go buy the same thing from a smaller guy for a few bucks more with 100% feedback.

A lot of the times you may luck out and get the good service, but then again with larger companies, the room for error grows significantly.

Now with the RIAA, thats a different obstacle. Even though i despise them just as much as walmart, no entity should ever bully their way and tell another entitiy how they should run their business.

Its like EA telling ECGN how they really should go about renting out servers for the BF series.

I hope i've made my point clear. We can agree to disagree, thats no problem. So flame on guys.

King, I agree that some things are worth the money. If I know I am going to buy a game or system, I buy where it's cheaper. If I am not entirely sure for whatever reason or its for one of the boys and im not too well informed, I will go to a more knowledgable place to purchase the item.
Comparing the Bed and Breakfast to a Holiday Inn Express, I see your point, but you get much better quality product from the Bed and Breakfast, so naturally I would assume you pay more, as I would.
I go to a local pizza shop rather than going to Pizza Hut or Domino's.
There is a local meat market(actual meat(dead)) that has excellent meats, I pay more to get them there, they do not seem threatened by the Wal-marts in the area because they have a great product to sell people, that people want to buy. There are also so-so grocers whom went out of business when the Wal-marts came in, obviously their product was not well liked compared to the others.
People have choices, people have different ideas of quality to price ratio. Wal-mart falls real short on pre-sale customer service, but I have yet to have a problem with a post-sale customer service.
I was not putting down every mom and pop shop, but some had little to offer, and those are the ones ran out of business.

About the Wal-mart-RIAA thing, its "walmart the consumer" saying "hey I am not going to buy your product for that price". It is entirely up to the ecord label(whatever) to decide if they want to lower their price for thier consumer. They have a choice.

According to the orginal article, from what i remember, they said that Wal-mart already prices their CD's to lose money, hoping that consumers would purchase other profitable items. This is just a way for them to watch their bottom-line and take less of a hit by lowballing the RIAA. Which of course is a morally good and bad depending on the side you take.

I just think as a whole, its a bad business practice... In the end its going to affect other retailers, Best Buy and on down the line. As it goes down the line, the affect will be more dramatic.

At least the debate is civil, eh?:)

I understand what your saying King.
CDs should cost less than they do now.
Tapes cost, what $9-10 back in the day, CDs are cheaper. Labels are making a mint off of CDs and us the consumer.
