nah, the advent of HD (porn or otherwise) will just get us used to the way people *really* look. It will take a while, but we will get used to wrinkles, blemishes and such--all stuff that is easy to conceal on regular TV.

Unless you have a tv over 50 inches wide who really gives a shit. Upgrading to either of those for most people is a complete waste of time and money. I mean seriously just how much definition do you need? My dad's tv is pretty damn huge and the definition from a standard dvd is perfect.
As for being able to fit really long films on one disc how many films are that long? As far as I can thing lotr extended is the only film where I had to change the disc mid film and to be honest after 2 hours I was glad for the intermission. Maybe they could get the special features all on the same disc but it doesn't change the fact that you are gonna have to get off your ass some time (probably to change your lay's feedbag) so why not swap the disc while you are up?
This just seems to me like a load of hype to get people to buy overpriced crap they don't need. It's not like upgrading from vhs to dvd because vhs is/was clealry obsolete. Dvd is still perfectly viable, cheap to produce long lasting and will not deteriorate over time like vhs. This whole blu-ray/hd-dvd is just the next way of making yet more money out of the same old shit. It's pointless IMO.

At CES they just unveiled the 51Gig HD-DVD, thus putting a semi-final nail in Blu-Ray coffin.
I agree though, anything Sony backs as new formats, avoid at all costs.
