Hey JimmyTango,

Are you from California?
And, what is this about recalling a governor being somehow a bad thing. That is what this country is about, making sure you do your job, and if you don't the people will vote you out. It is the Californian's choice to whom they want in office.

:D Sure Mr. Limbaugh, whatever you say! :salute:

Seriously, it's an interesting issue... As a logical person, it strikes me as odd that we allow almost totally unregulated cultivation and consumption of tobacco, while completely forbidding cultivation, sale, use, or whatever of marijuana. Seems rather the double standard....

Discuss amongest yourselves. ;)

Someone brought up the good point that this is going nowhere(though I am not a democrat, so I am not on the opposite side of the political fence, I just hate when I see one blame the other, as that is what happen in DC, and nothign is ever really done).

For those asking why it is so wrong to recall someone, it isn't. But you recall them for what they are doing/did during that term, not a previous term. That is where our election process got pissed all over. It is an embarrassment for this country to do that. We had a huge one in Florida, and now this.

I think this whole fiasco just reinforces the notion that people who can vote, need to go and vote. Check this out: http://www.census.gov/prod/2002pubs/p20-542.pdf
According to the Census Bureau, in the 2000 presidential election, only 111 million people voted, out of the 203 million people in this country who are capable of voting! 76 million people who did not vote are American citizens, and 19 million who who did not vote are registered voters. How much was the difference between Gore and Bush again?

If more people in this country, became citizens (the 16 million who are not) and more people registered to vote (73 million who are not), imagine the difference in how our elections would go. Now, I'm as centerist as you can be. I'll swing both ways on every issue and I'll argue both sides. But I always get pissed when I see people protest officials when they did not vote. The 2000 election is living proof that it makes a difference.

Notice I said party "machine" and not party... Gray Davis was no more than a cipher, doing exactly what he was told by the money that got him in office, ie the unions.

Unions these days are the main problem with this country IMO. Powerful groups that seek to subvert the interests of the overall common good for their own narrow and greedy goals. Often these unions represent a direct conflict of interest. Public employee unions for example.

And let's not hear about the federal tax thing again... that has been beat to death over time here and elsewhere. The numbers simply don't support your argument JT. The top 1% of the income earners in the country pay 35% of the taxes. The top 5% of income earners pay 50% of the taxes.

But I'm with Enjin on this one... I'm done after this post... feel free to blather on about this topic though :D

Alright, I was reading through that Census Bureau report some more and thought that I'd post something else, the reasons for why the people who did not vote, did not vote:

(Mind you, 92 million people who could have voted did not)

20.9% Too busy (Too busy to decide who's going to decide what this country of hundreds of millions of people is going to do?!)

14.8% Illness or emergency (I understand emergencies happen, but if you're no going out to pick the president of the United States because you have the sniffles, you need to get your head examined.)

12.2% Not interested (You're not interested in the fact that we have people in our government who control our lives and makes decisions for us, and that you have the potential to decide who those people are?!)

10.2% Out of town (Uhhh...absentee ballots anyone?)

10.2% Other reason (?!)

7.7% Didn't like the candidates (Then vote for your friggin' cat! Vote for something. Vote for the lint in between your toes!)

7.5% Refused, didn't know (?!)

6.9% Registration problems (Admittedly, it is not easy, and not clear to get registered in this country, but there are people to get in contact with to get it fixed. Just pick up a phonebook, ask at city hall, do something.)

4.0% Forgot (?!?!?!?!?!?!?! We have 4 million people in this country who forgot one of the most important things that happens every 4 years?! America's dumber than we all think.)

2.6% Inconvenient (Aw, you have to stand in line for a little while, and take at most an hour out of your life every 4 years. If you're that lazy, go get an absentee ballot.)

2.4% Transportation problems (Catch a bus, call a friend, get an absentee ballot.)

0.6% Bad weather (Go buy an umbrella.)

Ugh, we wonder why we're never satisfied with our government.

While I am done with the Cali deal, I do have a few other things to touch on.

First, voter turn out in this country is a joke. While I did not vote last presidential election(to me, not one was fit, and I refuse to vote for the 'lesser' evil, I vote for who I feel should be the president), it is sad just how many people do not. I also think the electoral college is a joke and needs to be changed.

I am very confused about ROW's union beleifs. I am sorry, the Unions balance out the corporate greed. Without Unions, our children would still be working in coal mines for pennies a day and Sally Struthers would be pleaing for help on Russian TV.
