Columbia crew memorial on Mars

Postby hightimber » Tue Jan 06, 2004 3:53 pm

This memorial for the Columbia shuttle crew is located on the back of the high-gain antenna on Spirit.

What a cool memorial.

It's nice to hear that young folks are excited about NASA and space travel, too! Welcome to geek-dom.

So when do we find out if there are little green men with tazers on the planet?

Rover status update:

TUESDAY, JANUARY 13, 2004
1704 GMT (12:04 p.m. EST)

The final umbilical running between the lander and rover was successfully cut overnight, and Spirit performed a 45-degree turn in place atop the lander. This was the first in a series of three turns to position the rover in the direction for the drive to the surface later this week.

----------------

For those that may be unaware, they are turning the rover 120 degrees on the base to avoid possible contention with a partially deflated airbag on their perferred path off the lander. The second-most desirable ramp will be utilized instead.
