Typical NASA idiots. Most likely cause to rover problems? Not enough RAM. Yes, that is right. File swapping is bogging the computer down. They tested it on Earth for 9 days. On Mars, after the 18th day and no memory dump, the system became bogged down and would crash.

Good job NASA. Almost as smart as filling a capsule with pure oxygen(highly flamable) with electronics all over the inside of the capsule. Or, sending that prode to Mars, only to have two teams working on it, each using a different scale. Gee, what happens when it lands on Mars? It gets lost since you never converted one scale to the other so they are both the same. Of course, these are just two examples of many bad moves.

Sometimes I think NASA(and the rest of the government) needs a common sense department,

You mean it wasn't the XP38 Space Modulator Ray?

Some of their employees may lack common sense on some issues but "idiots"????? Please!!! 99% of the guys that frequent these boards couldn't hold the jockstraps of the guys (and yes, gals) who are doing the math required to successfully land two rovers on planet that's hundreds of millions of miles away. The attention to detail required to design, build, launch, navigate, land, and maneuver robots so far from home is beyond most of our comprehensions.

Sometimes when these things fail, I question their judgement but I've never thought "idiots".

Sorry, it's the Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator.
Must be the newer model.

We now have two rovers on Mars. Opportunity drove off its lander platform early this morning. With its flash memory problems apparently solved, it appears that Spirit may return to normal status as early as tomorrow.

This is one of Opportunity's first pictures after driving off of its lander base:
