I agree Rc. Ok, I have nothing against any of you guys, but you have no business turning this thread into a type of arguement by saying that D-Day more/less important than Reagons death. That is a matter of opinion and it doesn't matter to me what anyone else thinks. D-day is a day that will always be remembered and my graditude goes out to all of those souls that fought for us. And I am deeply saddened by Reagons death as well. But I can't see how you can compare the two because they are completely different events.Originally posted by RCglider
It's not a matter of Dying veterans > Reagan. It's called respect and honor and knowing when to keep your mouth shut.

But again I'm not taking sides or anything. But you guys should think about what your saying sometimes and maybe just not include Reagon in this thread. (I believe there is another thread honoring Reagon.)

Back on topic...*rolls eyes*
I saw part of the program of D-Day memorial in France today on a CBC (A Canadian channel), the beaches of Normandy are quite beautiful, the weather over there today was clear blue skies. Quite different from the carnage and chaos that occured there 60 years ago, in that way, it's symbolic of how the world is today because of what took place on those beaches.

I have now added RCGlider to my ignore list. Only a few have this honor. Congrats man!
Back on topic: Today there was a very touching ceremony on Juno beach. Dozens of veterans were there and, while the crowd stood discreetely apart, they walked down on the beach. They were pointing things out to each other, and explaining things to family members. One threw a message bottle in the sea.

To me, the WWII generation really was the greatest generation. Maybe it's pessimistic but I don't see people of today achieving what they achieved then. We've become (for one reason or another) so self centered that the concept of greater good or Good vs Evil has become have become the punchline to a cynical joke. I was watching the History Channel today, a segment featuring how the Allied troops practiced their assault at a English beach town made to represent the D-day landing areas. To ensure secrecy they moved the entire town full of people and businesses away. What would happen today if the military (even in the same situation) were to ask a town full of people to up and move, without giving them any reason at all, and by the way--please keep this a secret? I'm sure a few people were pissed off back then, but as a whole they did their part.
I'm blown away when I think about people dealing with rationing, starting victory gardens, buying war bonds, doing whatever they could to help out, entire countries doing this. That type of unity today would be mocked as nothing more than nationalistic simple-mindedness. I would like to believe we could rise to the occasion, but I doubt it.
Thank god for those people, they really were unique.

Thanks for the outright flame, RC. Don't know who shit in your cereal this morning but there is no reason for you to even suggest that I "keep my mouth shut." I have my opinion and reasons for what I'm saying and you can read them or scroll past, I don't care; but you have no place telling me to shut up.
Respect and honor? You don't think people who were overseas for over two years fighting for freedom deserve respect and honor on the anniversary of their initial sacrifice? These people died for you. If it weren't for these people, you would either be living in poverty and squalid conditions, dead, or non-existant.

I feel like wiping out Medal of Honor and playing the D-Day mission with volume on max. Tell me I'm alone.
I remember when that game first came out and I played that mission I was like overwhelmed with all kinds of feelings.
They should set the server to all day Omaha beach and take away the axis' tanks and gernades.
Man I must be on so many peoples ignore list.
But how are these people who say they ignore so and so but are actually reading so and so s post.
But I agree with Cavalierwart that generation was pretty damn cool. I mean nowadays people cant even ignore posts by just not reading them they have to press a button and have the computer do it for them ... sheesh.

It seems to me tha in the grand scheme of things the death of Ronald Reagan, sad as it was, should have been a footnote to the D-day rememberances being as it is of less historical importance. If that gets me on your ignore list then so be it.

On the History channel it's all day D-Day in Canada... Great time to hear stories and interviews from those chaps, remembering and shedding tears over loss friends and such...
Was watching one about the Canadian landings at Juno beach about how 45 men from the Nova Scotia Highlanders were captured by the 12 SS division on D-Day + 1, when they advanced on the position on D-Day + 2, they discovered all captured 45 men were executed by shot in the back of the head by the 12th SS division...
"Heh, it's one thing to kill during battle but another to line up 45 men and execute them all."

My dad was overseas for over 3 years, 21 months on Guadal Canal, the rest on ships. He was wounded and cared for hundreds, burying many more than that. I know very well of the sacrifices. 5 of his brothers were in Europe. All 6 have since passed, my dad being the last.
If I seemed harsh, it was because I know what Tango was doing with his little Reagan jab. Sorry if I came a bit unglued toward you, and I didn't tell you to shut up, I said some people don't know when to shut up. Don't be so sensitive.
I've seen some pretty harsh language and rhetoric in these forums with nary a word from Chacal, except when it meets the PC criteria. Why he thinks what I said was so horrible; I guess I really don't care.

Let me let you in on a little secret: I am not out to get you, nor out to throw a few jabs to get under your skin. It is sad(as in pathetic) that you think otherwise.
There was no jab. i mentioned his name once, and it was about D-Day shows being pre-empted, THAT'S IT.
Strange in that other people agree with what I noticed(so it is not some far fetched theory that no one could possible fathom), yet for me I was just trying to take a jab at Reagan(without saying a bad thing about him).
Grow up and get off this f'ing podium of yours that somehow gives you the right to tell me, and everyone else, what I 'really mean.'
There is no hidden message nor do I have the desire to waiste my time with coming up with hidden agendas and trying to sneak one by you.

Well...this is going downhill quickly.
