What a joke, Gary Bettman needs to go....

Wed Feb 16, 2005 4:57 pm

well.....i hate to say it, but....screw the NHL players and owners for ruining the sport. Even when it comes back next season, fans arent going to like it very much. As a matter of fact, I bet a lot of fans wont watch it. When baseball had its strike, it ruined the sport for about 5 or 6 years. I can only imagine what it will take to gain the trust of die hard hockey fans once again.

I was excited for this year but now I have to wait till next year. I'll be watching, I won't give up on hockey. :)

I blame Bob Goodenow for this.Who does he think he is? Jimmy Hoffa?
Although the owners are stupid for agreeing to pay the players these inflated salaries, I'm sure they felt a lot of pressure to win from thier respective city population and media.
In '94-'95, the average player salary was $733,000. In '03-'04, it is over 2 million.
In '94-'95, Wayne Gretzky, the greatest player EVER to play the game, made $6.5 mil. In '02-'03, Jaromir Jagr made $11.4 mil., while scoring a not so impressive 36 goals and 41 assists for only 77 pts. Good enough to rank 20th in the league that year.

I've been a die hard hockey fan for the last 15 years of my life. I've watched them through 2 lockouts and 1 strike... person to blame GARY BETTMAN. Ten years ago when Bettman took over the game was at its finest... now we have no season, and when we did have hockey it slowly depreciated over the years. Jagr's paycheck is a joke and its the OWNERS who gave these players the cash.

You can't blame a guy for taking 2 mil more than what they are worth, i'd do it and you would too. I can lay the blame on both but moreso on the owners and bettman. He and Goodenow need to go, they've disgraced the sport to the point of where its at, they need someone else to fix it.

If there is no NHL next year, go WHA.

I hear ya King O' B ! They are both idiots.
I would even be for them bringing scabs in to play. Hell, we root for the sweater anyway ! And if all the teams had scabs (replacement players) it would be equal talent across the board. It could be just as exciting once you start to know the players. I've been to 3 AHL games this year and it was good fun!

i blame squarely Goodenow and the greedy players. Their greed and lack of restraint may very well cost hockey their professional league.

Goodenow had to know that he bent over the owners the last 10 years and with so many teams being sold, going bankrupt, etc... he had to know that players' salaries were a main cause of it.

Give me a break Goodenow, you are nothing more than a power and money hungry greedy bastard!

No scabs... they need high caliber hockey players... if the NHL has to contract a few teams so be it... farm systems were great 10 years ago because there were people DYING to get in NHL.

but there will be no more hockey league, i'd never root for a Blues player that hasn't played with Chris Pronger, Dallas Drake, or Kieth Tkachuk.

I'm awaiting the WHA.. most NHL players will head over that way and then we'll see hockey recitfy it.
