Weed Yes/no

Doomfarer,
First off, please note that I wasn't trying to call you uninformed. It was more of a blanket statement about some lines of reasoning (i.e. testimonials) that have been stated over and over again. In fact, none of my post was aimed specifically at you. I agree with you about the new anti-drug ads that are out there. They are an insult to our intelligence. Well, most of us anyway.
You make a good comparison between marijuana and legal drugs such as alcohol and tobacco. As I've said earlier in this thread, I don't believe marijuana to be any worse than those. My beef has been with those who have tried to say that there are no negative health effects of marijuana and that it is needed medically. As for which drugs to legalize, that's a difficult decision that every country has to make. Where on the continuum of drugs do we draw the line? Do we draw if after cocaine and legalize everything that's less harmful and addictive? Do we draw it after ecstasy? Do we draw if after caffeine? Many here believe the US has drawn its line too conservatively. Nevertheless, the line must be drawn somewhere. Suppose we could debate exactly where in the future.
You are correct that the smoked form of marijuana poses more health concerns that other forms. Being the predominant form, it is no wonder that most research has focused on it; as well it should. That said, there are negative effects to marijuana use regardless of the form that's used. I've named some of these effects previously, but they included decreased testosterone levels (I'd be happy to go into what all problems that can cause) as well as amotivational syndrome.
You state that I'm misinformed about the side effects of prescription drugs as compared to marijuana. I would be most happy to discuss this with you on a case-by-case basis involving supposed health benefits of marijuana and the available prescription drugs that will achieve the same benefits. In the case of your aunt, it's a little difficult for me to debate that as I'm not familiar with her case. I don't know what comorbidities she had nor do I know all the medications she was on. As for the depression issue, I'm curious as to why you would think that marijuana was either more efficacious or had fewer side effects than, say, Citalopram. Once again, I don't know her case so I don't know of any contraindications that she may have had. However, there are relatively few contraindications to Citalopram.
Since this post is long enough, I'll save the mental health effects discussion for a future post. I'm not trying to dodge that part of the discussion, but I'm out of time for now.

Do you know what the saddest part of about this thread is? The internalized bitching and moaning that's going on here. Everyone here (well mostly) has presented an organized and well stated opinion on marijuana use. For those of you in the "States" why not write some damn senators instead of wasting breath crusading for a cause that can not be helped here at all. Hell, at least link this thread in your e-mail to said government official. Now, I do not trust my government, and I trust my politicians even less (glad handing money whores they are). But they are (in theory) the voice that is supposed to represent the people. Why not give them something from the people to represent, eh? Maybe they'll leave their line in bill 420 for a new baseball field for their hometown out if they have a valid argument from an informed citizen.
Elite-Guard, pass that motherfu**er to the left hand side man!

waste of time.
why not piss into the wind?
paranoia has been mentioned on this thread as well, im sure without even looking. ive got video cameras all over the exterior of my house because my paranoia is so bad. the other crazies(on this board) most likely have enough sense to not draw attention to themselves by writing pro-pot letters to those in positions of power.
id like to think that the govt has a reason for keeping weed illegal here(usa)...
i done hurt mah last 3 brainy cells,

Hello. My 2 cents: when it's not around I cluelessly stare at my computer wondering why I can't muster the drive to play it even though I do want to play (any game, not just Wolfe). I'm not sure if that's good or bad, but I do like that when I have better things to do there's something that can get me away from my computer. Heheheh

Wow....this little pole went far lol. Guess i'll throw my two cents in. As someone who has smoked pot for 13 years now, I would say I do like it. Its a great stress relief. Of course I started doing it because of the high, but its more to relax now. After a long day at work, and dealing with lifes ups and downs, a joint is relaxing....no doubt. As far as the health aspect, there is no argument. OF COURSE its bad for you. Any kind of smoke you put in your lungs is bad. Not to mention the brain cells your burning away, no matter how slow it burns em...its still burnin em. Some people can function normally, and lead an outgoing, successful life while smoking weed, while some just wanna sit on the couch all day munchin out, with no job, no life. I DO plan on quitting within the next 2 months as me and my wife are planning to have a baby, and I just couldnt tell my child NOT to do something that I do myself. Smoking pot is nothing to glorify. Its a dirty, unhealthy habit, just like cigarettes. I'm not proud I smoke it, but I enjoy it. Its just one of those shitty habits. And I know a few guys I could show ya, who have smoked thier whole lives. Youd think twice after meeting these people.
