Hanging may involve breaking of the neck (drop-hanging; causing instant unconsciousness without breathing, and quick death), or one or more of the following:
closing the airway
closing the carotid arteries
closing the jugular veins
carotid reflex (which reduces heartbeat when the pressure in the carotid arteries is high) causing cardiac arrest

Corporal punishment should be brought back for certain things. Caning teenagers for theft, vandalism seems like it would be pretty effective to me.

I did. But the only place where instant death dropping was used is the US. IT doesn't even say weather it was scientificly tested or not. I'm willing to bet if any other government hanged you, you would take 8 to 13 minutes to die from suffocation and/or a heart attack.Originally posted by JimmyTango

It doesn't say where the person who invented it was from. Besides that, what about the tests done by people to see if the head lives after being cut off? There is no way outside of a labrotory to tell if it is instant ot not.Originally posted by JimmyTango

Definately. Too many psychos, murderers, and rapists are being set loose because of cutbacks and the such.
