Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

I will second Stephanie on that one. Depending on the circumstances, 20 years is a long time, even for murder. The lady in Houston who was caught on tape running over her husband only got 20 years. Of course 20 years probably doesn't mean 20 years behind bars, but it still probably works out to a long time. Also, murder of a family member usually ends up with a lesser sentence than murder of a stranger. Those kind of crimes usually are committed by people who aren't really threatening to strangers, and who had some kind of almost understandable motive, like the lady who kills her cheating husband, etc.
As a side not being drunk generally doesn't have an effect on someone's culpability. It can't be used like an insanity defense, and I believe all states have provisions like what we have in the Texas Penal Code:
§ 8.04. Intoxication
(a) Voluntary intoxication does not constitute a defense to the commission of crime.
(b) Evidence of temporary insanity caused by intoxication may be introduced by the actor in mitigation of the penalty attached to the offense for which he is being tried.
(c) When temporary insanity is relied upon as a defense and the evidence tends to show that such insanity was caused by intoxication, the court shall charge the jury in accordance with the provisions of this section.
(d) For purposes of this section "intoxication" means disturbance of mental or physical capacity resulting from the introduction of any substance into the body.
As for not wanting to be a cop or soldier, I seriously doubt any of us would want to live in a society where individual cops and/or soldiers called the shots as they saw fit. Their decisions would inevitably be arbitrary. You may not like specific laws, you may not like any laws, but the fact is that society has them in part to take power out of the hands of individuals.

I hate to revive this stupid thread, but I had to wonder if any of you heard Michael Moore at the Oscars. His diatribe against Bush and the war got a lot of boos. Quite surprising in Hollywood.
Hopefully, this will convince those undecided about Moore that he his full of crap. And maybe it will convince those of you that find him "factual".
I can't believe "Bowling..." won for anything, but this gives me hope. Maybe I can take a dump in the street, film it, blame it on guns, Bush, and Republicans, and call it a documentary.

I didn't bother watching those self-serving prima donnas stroke themselves. Moore should go make himself a human shield, no one will miss him.

Yeah, Micheal Moore sucks. I watched that stupid documentary (I dl it because I refuse to support that crap), and all I can say is that I left with the impression the Moore is a mean, grudge bearing lunatic. He actually is a miserable person. There is a reason why he gets involved in publicity raising stunts like shouting at security guards or clerks that work in the lobbies of large corporations, and tthat is that he has no sense of self-respect for himself, and so he gives none to others. The guy is sheer misery to himself. I suggest the fat oaf lose some weight, shave once in a while, and read that book Chicken Soup for the Soul (jk

)

ok, well I still maintain what I sayed, in that its not what moore said that I think, its what I got out of the film, what I percieved. I don't care if you are all against me at all. But it seems most of you have an inability to say "you know what, there is no right and no wrong, I am not right because I believe along with 15 others that mr moore is shitty" not many of you can do that without feeling like you've lost. Thanks for the discussion, or something, No one wins but this thread went on like you all had something to prove which is impossible. What do you want me to say I don't like Mike Moore anymore. and to say I liked that film doesn't mean I endource everything he's ever done. That anti-bush crap, I don't care, let him make a fool of himself but I think no lesser of him. he does one thing, and thats stand up for his oppinions no matter what the opposition. exactly what I'm doing. so make sure you don't go too far in life, as to try to change someone elses mind about too much. We all disagree, and we should. So some of you, (and if you are one you know) need to realise that your not pushing your oppinions on anyone, its simply giving more angles for them to look at there own oppinion with. That in mind, don't bother making any crapy petty comebacks or even just saying something pointless. I am done with this thread, but all this new stuff brought words to my mouth. Sorry to write a book, but some of you need a book, grow up, respect oppinions.

While I generally liked Bowling(because I can seperate fact from spin), Moore was a little out of line with his comments at the Oscars.
Although, I thought the line "When the Pope and the Dixie Chicks are against you, you know something's wrong." was pretty funny.
Mon Mar 24, 2003 10:06 pm
I'm not going to touch the Michael Moore subject any more, but I am happy with my inability to say that "there is no right and no wrong."
Mon Mar 24, 2003 10:07 pm
Tool, if I was bashing anyone, it was Michael Moore. I didn't feel it important enough to start a new thread, so I just used this one.
Sorry if I offended you. I guess I should be more careful with words such as "undecided" and "factual".

Here is the TRUTH about Bowling for Columbine.
http://www.hardylaw.net/Truth_About_Bowling.html
I won't say anything more but i'll just let ya read for yourself.
Mon Mar 24, 2003 10:38 pm
Yeah I believe that website, and I know that Bowling for Columbine was rehearsed, and made to seem impromptu. Great job that guy did on the website, and rebuking Moore line by line.

I will never submit myself to view the blood pressure raising sideshow that is Michael Moore. Anybody can see that he is full of shit at a mere glance. But because many on the left agree with his ideas he is elevated.
Style over substance. Fiction over fact.
