The days of "Mom and Pop" stores have been over for quite some time. Having lived in many cities and towns through out my life I've found that when a big business comes in the only places that get run out of business are the ones that had no competition and usually these "Mom and Pop" stores didn't have a very good selection of products to buy but because nobody really opposed them they thrived. I've seen "Mom and Pop" businesses run other "Mom and Pop" businesses out of business.

As far as wages go, Walmart has never paid enough to make a living off nor should they pay that much. It's a damn retail job. How much do you expect to make?

Anyway, the reason why I do not like Walmart is because of the people that shop there and Walmart carries low-end merchandise for the most part. ...And shopping online is easier and sometimes cheaper.

I prefer Target over Walmart. The stores are usually cleaner, product line is usually better quality, there aren't so many dirty people in the store*, I don't find people drop kicking merchandise down isles but the prices are a bit higher.

*During the looting after Hurricane Katrina, Target didn't even get looted. I don't know what it is about target but low-lifes avoid it like the plague.
