Some close contenders -
Indiana Jones - Raiders of the lost Ark.
Salvador
Last temptation of Christ
SW:The Empire Strikes Back
Breakfast Club
Platoon
Color of Money
Wall Street
The Terminator

Did no like Ghostbusters?? That was the best, well not the best but still good. Also what about 48 HRS. ?? BTW Ferris Bueller's Day Off is a very funny movie. Ghostbusters 2(not better but still good)-1989. Little Shop of Horrors(funny)-1986, and another great movie Say Anything...(Cameron Crowe-1989)
Here are some Major Films of 1984
Title
The Terminator
Blood Simple
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Ghostbusters
Sixteen Candles
Purple Rain
Beverly Hills Cop
All info(most) came from allmovie.com A great site if you like movies...

Your right alien 4 blows! Ghostbuster 2 is infact bad, ok, ok you got me, and Drax we are not obeessed we just happen to like the movie and if you don't know the date when it came out thats ok...and Alien, and Aliens were both great films )Alien 3 was a crap and so was 4...but 3 was better then 4)

Alien 3 was a waste I mean it could of been good but thay had to kill off three people thats like killing Aliens itself. Little Newt was key in Aliens(Dead in tube full of water) Hicks was also key, a love bettwen Ripley and Hicks was happening(He was killed by a huge f**king beam that fell on him, what a way to go...)Bishop was blow to parts and he was soo cool! Then they go ahead and make Alien 4(what the hell was that?)Junk! thats what! Aliens(I think is the best of them all, the Alien, then Alien 3...Alien 4 is not in the list) Then the make T3(I just want to say that was also junk, T2 was way better...is all about money. Movies are just made to make money, what happened to the good old days when art was a facter??

lol i aggree with parker i mean when was the last time you saw a good movie in the theatres? not for a long time for me. X2 was good (not really) T3 okay, but different director and bad boys 2 (*barf*) just making a point that most recent movies are not great classics that stick in your mind. Aliens and all those better good movies stick in your head.

Caddyshack came in 1980, so that's just squeaks in of course as the greatest comedy ever.
Platoon, one of the best war films ever.
How about some the movies from the 80s that aren't necessarily great, but really represent the period in some way:
Red Dawn.
Really captures that paranoid, kill a commie for mommy feeling in Reagan era America. I think I was 14-15 when it came out, and I was pretty sure this movie was Oscar material at the time. Grab it from the $5 bin at WalMart and have a laugh.
Wargames: Man, this movie was way ahead of it's time (hacking, networking, etc).
Revenge of the Nerds: a true classic of the 80's
A little sidenote: For those of us that were old enough to notice, I recall it felt like America was waking up from the hangover of the 70s, there was that really upbeat feeling. Ever notice how the 80s movies often feature a point where the characters fix up, dust off, clean up etc some old house, boat, car..whatever and turn it into a something great? It's a theme I notice now when I watch these movies. Just a weird little observation after thinking about Revenge of the Nerds. The feeling of an era really creeps into the movies.
Made for TV: The Day After -- a movie depicting a nuclear war. Back then we all just *knew* the bomb would drop eventually. It was a actually a common expression "when the bomb drops" never "if", as in "whats the point of High School, a diploma ain't gonna help you when the bomb drops" (this was one of my many excuses I made to myself while skipping school)
