I have played both as well. The PC version is a direct translation of the english PS version.

The intro movie looks very grainy. Is this correct?

Yes, the full motion animations that are in Final Fantasy VII were directly translated from the Playstation version. These animation's original screen resolution was 320 x 200 pixels and have been stretched to 640 x480 pixels. This is what causes the grainy appearance. If you wish to view the animations as they were in the Playstation you will need to run the game in one quarter screen mode instead of full screen.

I can't find anything about the rest of the game but if you play it at 320x240 full screen it looks horrible. If you play it at 640x480 full screen it looks horrible. If you play it at 640x480 quarter screen it looks pretty good.

Only thing I can think of that they changed was the text of the characters talking because it doesn't resemble nearly as much as the engrish we have all come to know and love with the "all your base" fad.
