Thats a pretty lucid response there Cappricio and I respect that.

I think one of the problems you have here is that, although you were probably taken out of context, your post and Chacal's so close together came across as bashing Americans. (Chacal's was blatantly so and frankly I had thought better of him before reading that).

I think we have all bashed about on these forums arguing about wether or not this war is right but most of us will get mightily heated when we percieve someone attacking the boys and girls who are doing their duty.

Feel free to attack the politics of the war but do not bash the ones doing the work. They are doing their duty and as a guy who was there last time around I have nothing but the ultimate respect for what they are sacrificing right now.

A problem I often have with the liberal mindset is that they give the appearance of that old slang saying about "Can't we all just get along?" Mind you I am not bashing you in particular for that, but most of us who are not liberal see it as that way.

In an ideal world, yes, but this world is not ideal. There are people out there needing killing. At home and abroad. Does this make that video "awesome!" or "cool"? No. But it is a neccessity and you can recognize the neccessity without being a war mongering bloodthirsty killer.

And how many times have you driven down the road and seen a slowdown because people are looking at an accident? They aren't looking to go "Oh my! Thank goodness everyone is ok" They are looking to see the blood and gore. Same phenomenon here.

The sad truth is guys like DevilDog and myself, who have been there and seen that, know for a fact that all the education in the world isn't going to help. There are power hungry people out there. There are greedy people who want what you have and they do not want to share. There are people who are just plain evil.

All the positive thoughts and hopes that education can change that are unfortunatly misguided so you need people to stand up and say "I'll do my part".

There are basically three types of people in this world. Sheep, Sheepdogs, and Wolves.

I know Devil and I are sheepdogs. Just pray to your own respective Gods that there will always be enough of us dogs to protect people from the wolves.

And Chacal I like you and think you are an intelligent guy but that remark about the friendly fire incident really lowered my opinion of you. Do you honestly believe that anyone was actually happy that happened? If you do then you are so far out there that there may be no hope for you. I thought better of you. Please prove me wrong. I respect your right to have your own viewpoint and see things in your particular politcal slant but that was really uncalled for and quite frankly spiteful.

Kind of harsh but I have to agree with you on your point there.

No one is just flying around the desert going "Who can we shoot today?"

The kind of tactical preparation and intelligence, the opsec, and the planning that go into these missions is not at all like taking your stuka off and bombing the first thing you see moving.

Stop thinking of this like an LA driveby shooting and think of it as a highly trained force commiting a well planned action to achieve their objectives.

I can name you a hundred Hollywood movies that are ten times more graphic than that video you watched. Is there really that much a difference between knowing its real and paying Hollywood to make it so you can it?

Good point Mugzy, We as Americans are a little backwards when it comes to violence and sex. However, I dont care if the enemy is upset about us killing them because we are at war with the insurgents. If this makes them think twice about killing us so much the better.

I was in Somalia also and I never really hated people as a class or group until after I went there.

What a fucking shithole and those people there deserve it. And funny thing about it.

I was in ARG-11 (Amphibious Readiness Group) that initially went into Somalia and started securing the airfield to bring in the peacekeepers. I was on board the flagship and I WAS IN THE GROUP DOING THE INTEL WORKUP!

Watching this video and thinking the actions taken are on the same level as the terminator is pretty stupid, un-informed, and ignorant.

I could quote to you right now (over ten years later!) a lot of the intel including the various factions, their strongpoints, and the equipment they are using, but my non-disclosure agreement does not allow it.

Is it cool watching people getting blown to pieces by a 30 mike mike autocannon? maybe not but I don't mind seeing it happen to bastards that deserve it.

Why the hell is this video being shown to the public? I can understand the need for them to be killed, there is a WAR and it's probable they had a weapon, but there is absolutely no reason why that video showing people being blown to bits should be played on TV. Young children cannot see a naked breast on television, but it's perfectly OK to show living people being blown to bits over and over again? There is something wrong with that, BIG TIME.

Seeing people being blown up isn't AWESOME. that's something I would have expected a 12 year old to say after watching that.

OK. Frankly I can live with that. For what it's worth, what I meant is, at some point those guys are just pressing a button and looking at a TV. It doesn't seem like killing to them. It's a video game. You get detached from the act. In Afghanistan, this led to dropping the bomb on friendly troops. Same thing with that afghan wedding where 40 people were killed. I'm convinced more precautions would have been taken if US troops had been around.

After reading all posts in this thread, I don't feel like responding to them. If nobody here feels it's wrong to shoot at a wounded guy crawling on the ground, then it's just not worth it.
